I have yet to see a thread anywhere on the internet about this and I had leaves stuck in mine making noise when the fan was running and rather than pay the dealer 150 to do it, I figured I'd give it a shot figuring it out on my own.
Unlike older model 3's you do not need to remove the glove box for this install.
First go under the glove box and remove the plastic piece that goes above the foot well. It is just held on by 2 clips nearest to the seat. Mine also had the foot well lighting which I had to unclip.

Then on the side of the center console pop out that panel. Pry it from the side closest to the shifter and slide it back towards the shifter once those clips are out.

Locate the air filter holder thing-a-ma-bob. Mine had 2 screws holding it in on the bottom, but there may be a 3rd. I cannot tell if the dealer looking at it forgot to put the last in or if they are all like that.

You can see inside now that there are 2 filters. Slide the bottom one out then the top.

View inside with filters removed and leaves removed.

Thats it. Put it back together in reverse order and you should be all set. I hope this helps some of you as I searched and searched to no avail on the 2010 models.
Bonus pic...what i pulled out from the filter area.
