If this happens to anybody, where your backup camera feed doesn't show up on your screen when you put the car into reverse, first try a forced reboot.

I had the issue a few mornings ago. I rebooted the infotainment center, and the backup camera feature worked again.

So, before you try any more difficult measures, like troubleshooting the circuit with a meter or taking it to a dealer, just reboot. Seriously!
The camera feed is put on the screen by a computer program, and it probably just crashed.

To force a complete reboot:
Press and hold Mute + Nav + Back
This worked! Thank you so much.

I give up!🤪
Yeah I feel the same....

It reminds me of a fun thing with a branch of psychology known as cognitive bias...

When I was young the original Nintendo was super popular. Except anyone that remembers those things knows that getting the games to work was quite the chore. Put the cartridge in and you probably get a flashing screen.

So we would take the cartridge out and blow on it and try again. Eventually it would work. He point is we'd blow on the cartridge and see a result, much Iike this backup camera thing.

Except... blowing on the cartridge did nothing. The problem was that the console suffered from a bad connection. What worked was pulling out cartridge out and putting it back in, this gave it the opportunity for the contacts to reseat. Blowing on did nothing.

But yet we did it because we saw the result.

One other suggestion if that doesn't work...If you have anything plugged into the console charger, SD map slot or USB ports remove all and then, lock the door and walk away for awhile and/or do a infotainment reset/reboot. I found on a couple occasions, that removing the SD map card fixed the exact problem. A couple of times recently, I noticed the navigation did not come on and I just removed the SD card and re-inserted. I do on occasion get the wiggly back up screen, but the problem usually resets itself the next time I get in the car....There is also a known problem discussed long ago on this forum that off brand chargers can cause the screen problem.
Thank you. This was the solution for me. I guess my Mazda 3 (2018) doesn’t like my wireless carplay adapter.

Well, don't be surprised if you experience the problem again. These all turned out to be temporary fixes. There was a TSB a couple of years ago identifying the problem as a loose wiring harness. In fact it was even simpler than that. It's a 24 gauge wire that dangled in the hatch back. It seems impossible, but it was just enough weight to create the disconnection and the camera not to work. Rather than taking your car into Mazda...you can do the work yourself. Remove the interior trim of the hatchback and tape the wire to the hatchback so it does not dangle. That's it and the problem permanently solved. Removing the interior trim and panel is not difficult and there are videos and instructions. Be careful not to break any the tabs, but done slow & right, it's a 30-45 minute job max.

Only thing I would disagree with here is the use of tape to stabilize the wire. I did that on my first attempt and it lasted a few months before the first heat wave softened the adhesive enough to release the tape from the hatch sheet metal. A more permanent fix requires the use of a zip tie to attach the loose cable to an adjacent wire that is much more rigid for the needed support.

After getting the recall letter over a year ago for our '15 model, and suffering with the intermittent camera problem for several years, we finally dropped the car off at our dealer and they had it fixed within a few hours by replacing a wire harness (no new camera required). My wife is thrilled because she hadn't realized how bad the picture was getting until now when it shows up like when the car was new. It was like going from an old TV to an HD TV! And of course at no cost since the problem was declared to be a safety issue and thus a required fix.

Problem (flickering) for my 2015 hatch was intermittent and only happened in wet conditions. Today dealer could not reproduce the issue and "installed foam pad to hold wiring in place" which sounds equivalent to "wiring harness fastening seal will be added to prevent harness movement" repair description in recall. I assume/hope that will fix it based on what others have reported but time will tell.

are you saying that your dealer did not do the recall? this is not an issue of perform recall if it can be proven, this is a safety recall. they don't get to decide if they want to do it or not and you should not be charged for this. the recall is to install new wiring/connector. there was a TSB that describes what you're speaking of, the recall overrides this.

i'd be demanding recall is completed correctly. if they charged you for that work you are owed a full refund. you should be contacting corporate if this is the case.

your dealer needs to be more descriptive if there's some question as to what they did here. that being said, i fixed mine with some cork sheet and 2 zip ties years ago. it's been fine ever since so i'm just too lazy to get the recall done.

Dealer did the repair at no charge under the recall. At first I had the same concern, but after reading the recall details I think they followed the procedure. If the issue recurs I'll just take it back (dealer is just 10 min from me).
"Dealers will inspect vehicles. If inspections verify no concern with the rearview camera image, a wiring harness fastening seal will be added to prevent harness movement. If inspections verify there is image distortion or flickering, the rearview camera will be replaced with a new part and a wiring harness fastening seal will be added."

Great news. I just got a notice I should contact the dealership. I guess they have enough parts in the system 18+mon since the initial recall went public in 2023.
