Yes, yes, make sure your deductible for this type of incident is cheap on your car as it's not cheap to calibrate. pretty much 800 bucks out the door depending on your state.

 

Mine didn't Require a Calibration but they will check it anyway to make sure..

Had my windshield replaced with just 200km on the car.. Part fell off a Honda civic in front of me and hit my windshield.

Insurance covered mine so I only had to pay my deductible. If I didn't it would have cost $1100 out the door from the Mazda dealer with OEM Glass.

 

I have a a ~4-5" crack and it's too large to be repaired as per a windshield repair shop.
They checked based on my VIN ('19 hatch premium) and the only glass available is OEM and without insurance, the cost would be $990 + tax only for windshield replacement.
Camera & sensors recalibration would have to be done by the dealer (so some more money there as well).
I can't see the crack while driving as it's in the lower part however it might extend.

Does anyone know if when an insurance policy lists a deductible for a windshield replacement, if that includes the camera and sensor recalibration? Or is that only for a the actual windshield cost and installation?

 

I don't know about the insurance claims yet and it might depend on also from one insurance company to another.

I've got two quotes so far from two different companies:

• $990 without tax only for windshield replacement and then I would have to go to the dealer to do recalibration
• $1300 without tax for windshield replacement + recalibration

Only glass available was OEM.
I've sent the photos above to both these companies and said no repair possible. I did an online quote with Safelite and is $150 to repair it and online they said anything under 6" can be repaired; not sure who to trust here.
My crack is not visible while driving but it would probably extend.

 

Gotcha, I initially had just a chip from a road trip. I went to Safelite and my insurance covers chip repair. They warned me of the possiblity in advance but figured I'd give it a shot. The chip repair process exerted enough pressure to make the chip into a crack that is no repairable. I'd say it's only about 3 to 4 inches but can't be fixed according to them. So no I'll just live with it until the crack grows and reaches the edge of the glass. All that said I don't think Safelite is a bad idea.

 

I can only comment on my own experience in the UK.
mine is right across the windscreen from a stone chip picked up this morning!
I put an online claim through my insurers this afternoon which directed me to a National firm with a local centre (specialist glass replacement firm rather than Mazda)
It will be done by Nationalwindscreens who also complete calibration and undertake that themselves as well giving a certificate of manufacturer specifications, so I don’t expect to have to take it to a Mazda dealers afterwards.
I’m hopeful that with the age of the car (3 months) they replacement will be Mazda glass.
Let’s hope it’s a decent job, time will tell but I’ll punt up a picture or two once it’s done.

 

my windshield cracked about 15 inches from driver side top mount -adj to camera mount- downward to curve partway around the camera mount inside the cabin. never heard or saw rockchip that week but did remember hitting a pothole at speed rocking the car. local dealer agreed was a stress fracture, replaced under warranty, $1100 incl camera recalibration. i suspect the shield attached camera added to the stress. my cruise also is far easier to set than before the recalibration. this dealer seems most eager to assist w/warranty claims as they make good income from doing so.

 

the $1100 was charged to maz corporate. was told my out of pocket would have beem more cost without the warranty.

 

I have my windshield replaced 3 times already. 27000kms on the odo. 1 of the replacements was a warranty one as I argued with the dealer about scratched paint under that seal around the window. Got it replaced and It is still scratched. Will be dealing with rust in couple of years... Sensorwise all good except with the first replacement when the rain sensor popped out somehow, but it was 2 minutes fix as I am living next-door to the dealer.

Look closely and you see the beading isn’t set as it was from factory, the fitters have gouged and minor dented the paint on the A pillar and there is glass dust and tiny shards in the nooks and crannies of the cabin including the HUD recess which is a pain to clean out.

You seriously cannot find the workmanship these days.

I’ve contacted the fitters and insurance but will probably look to get the paint sorted at the very least. If the windscreen keeps the weather out it’s as good as I’ll get I reckon.

That unfortunately needs the screen taking out. The A pillar respraying by somebody with experience of using Soul Red Crystal (it's a difficult paint to colour match & invisibly blend into the existing paintwork) & the screen refitting by somebody that knows what they are doing.
It will probably cost somewhere close to £1000 to do it properly.
Hopefully the windscreen company will cover the cost without issue, but I would be prepared to take them to the small claims court.
Do you have legal cover with your insurance?

 

I suspect it was time pressures having taken in jobs from a multiple collision on the A9 the day before. But had they asked for more time I would have given it to them…no excuses.
Bodyshop choices with proven standards are limited as I have no direct experience of them, though the nearest one they use has a decent reputation from feedback reviews online (Facebook and Google)…it’s going to be another leap of faith.
Soul red crystal…another dimension to the uncertainly…

 

Later this week I will get my windshield replaced under warranty with Safelite and it seems based on the quote that they will use an aftermarket windshield with the code "FW05181".
Other glass companies (when I tried to pay myself and not use the insurance) told me only OEM glass is available and is $990 without tax.

I googled that code and seems to be from a company called XYG:

Safelite just messaged me now and canceled my appointment: I must source your part directly from the dealership and it is currently 10 business days out. I have cancelled your appointment and will contact you to reschedule once your part arrives. It will be OEM

No surprise there. If its being replaced under warranty OEM parts are almost certainly required to maintain the warranty on the glass.

 

I've replaced the windshield today and overall it's ok (ACC still works, HUD is fine) but it's obvious as the windshield was replaced as you can see some of the plastic pieces around wiper blades how were removed and some clips not installed back.

I believe windshield could be better installed as well and I didn't tested when raining to ensure there's no leak.

Maybe it was like this before and now that I'm looking for things, I'm finding them and I'm too picky?!

On the top side, it seems the windshield sticks above the body line on the passenger side; I add another photo with my other car for reference.

On the driver's side, there seems to be a larger gap than on the passenger side as I can put my finger in that gap:

I initially thought that they forgot to put some protection part there but I sourced an older photo and it didn't had anything before and the gap was there as well (probably not that large).
