This is my first car that uses synthetic oil, let alone one with the skyactive engine. Just wondering (I've already gotten my first oil change), how often do you guys recommend that I get the oil changed? Some people say synthetic oil can go longer than ~5k, and others say I should still get it done every ~5k. Thoughts/experiences? Thanks!

Use your best judgement. I'm doing 6 months/5K (whichever comes first) UNTIL the warranty has expired (I don't want them to null my warranty). After the 5 year/60K mile warranty is over, I will do it every 12 months/6K (whichever comes first).

Much of it depends on HOW you drive your car and WHERE you drive your car. The same rules don't apply to all.

And, you should still check your oil even if you're not changing it. Not an issue usually when new, but cars tend to 'burn' oil with age and require topping off.

If you aren't considered by Mazda to be driving in "extreme" conditions (definition provided in the user manual), you can use the flex schedule at which point you change the oil when it says to OR 10k miles or 1 year which ever comes first.

Or you could just do whatever makes you feel good but stay within Mazda's recommendations and you should be good to go. :smile2:

Personally I go ~8000 KM. Just shy of 80000 KM and no issues so far. Obviously there are a lot of factors going into how long your oil will last. Driving style, conditions, time, etc.

Depends on the oil you use. If it's mazda oil you should be good up to around 8k if most of your miles are highway. If most of your miles are city then 5k changes. But the first 50-60k its better to do your oil changes earlier at 5k so the wear sets in nice and even so that it should last you 200-300k.

Skyactiv calls for full synthetic.
