4th Gen Turn Off Auto Headlights?

Hello!

Is there a way to permanently turn off the automatic headlight feature? I've read the older gens you are able to but unable to do this on the 4th gen. I have a roof box that is slightly over the light sensor so on mid days my headlights are always on.

I have tried adjusting the auto headlight sensitivity in the infotainment which didn't do anything.

They are LED so they are not gonna burn out... if you wanted to keep them to just halo's, by turning off DRL and setting sensitivity to lowest, then yeah, SOL if the sensor is blocked completely... Honestly, I think this is the best feature ever. Far too many idiots drive without lights on at all when you should pretty much always have at least your markers on even if you don't need headlights to see. And since all the lights are LED, they don't draw much power and likely won't ever burn out unless you keep your car 20 years, which no way we will with gas and EV's and all that, hehe

Stupid feature if you can't disable it. When the headlights are on the dash is dimmed for night time driving. If the headlights come on during the day it can be hard to see the dash gauges in full sunlight. There should be a way to disable the auto function as in the earlier cars.

I realize the safety benefits of full auto lights with no override, however there are instances where I wish I could at least temporarily turn them off. For example, my driveway is up a steep hill, and if I come home late at night my headlights beam straight into some neighbors' bedroom windows.

Also I don't understand why the "full auto" headlights do not turn on in the rain, since clearly it would know with auto wipers. It conditions us into never touching the headlight switch, so I'll realize a couple minutes into a downpour that the car hasn't turned the lights on.

Both very good points! At least with the rain thing you can always turn up the sensitivity a bit but like I was saying, I use the markers almost all the time, auto at night, so as long as your markers are always on then you get that contrast to help other drivers see you when you otherwise don't need headlights to see the road.. But yeah, inability to turn off temporarily if you are already moving first sucks but if you do use the marker setting the headlights at least won't come on at startup until you put it into gear.

Those who believe that turning the lights stalk to the off position which keeps the DRL on is the same as the stalk being in the on position is the same consider the following:

1. In the off position the light output of the DRL is reduced at night you would not have full light output.
2. Most importantly your tail lights do not power on, you're asking to be rear ended.

IMO Auto is the safest option regardless of your personal preference since the DRL could fool the driver into thinking their "lights" are in the on position

There is no selectable Off position with the 4 gen, this whole discussion has been about the options we do have. Between Auto, which actually doesn't have markers during the day, the marker setting and On, being our options, I have been saying the marker setting is quite convenient with tail lights on at all times, plus Halo's on up front with headlights coming in when it's dark also. Only difference with On is it gets to be halo's on the front until it's dark with marker setting vs. headlights all the time with On.

How about when you're driving through a Christmas light show where they ask you to turn your lights off and you can't unless you drive exactly 1mph because they turn on at 2mph, this car limits some things I used to do due to the stupid auto lights but there are plenty of other dumb quirks that make me wish I still had my 2017 hatch GT 6mt over the 2023 premium plus turbo hatch I've had for the past year. Thinking of selling and going for an Audi RS3
