Interesting. I made this Operation in my old M6 GG and it worked as described. i put the signal to GND and the light lit up. I wonder why one would bother deactivating this in software.

I did that before, it show on IC but not show text warning in small lcd which gas tank level showed too... My IC look like picture bellow.

Second picture with IC like my car but has text warning in small lcd when washer fluid was low level....

the left picture and the right picture are actually different IC models. the left one is a simpler display which can only show predefined things, if you look closely you can see all segments lightly. there is no chance that the display will show anything else but the segments visible.
the IC on the right photo has a more complex display which can show just about anything, as it is made up out of single pixels like a computer monitor.

in most countries the simple display is sold with cars which do not have the Head up display while the better display is sold with the cars which have the Head Up Display. I dont think that is true for all cars though.

the simpler display simply is unable to show free text messages and therefore will only light up the small LED.

Well, one mistery solved then - there is no direct connection. In Germany all cars have the simpler display, only the highest trim ("Sports Line") do have the better one (and they also have the HUD).

Well, you will need the sensor (or the water tank with the sensor). afterwards you can enable the sensor with forscan.
