Using Alpine KTP-445U in 2014+ Mazda3 with TAU

I have a 2015 Mazda3 Sport sedan with 6 non-Bose speakers. I’ll be putting in a PAC AOEM-MAZ2 (line out converter with Mazda wiring harnesses built in) to run an amp/sub in the trunk. I’d also like to add an Alpine KTP-445U to boost the aftermarket door speakers. The problem is that this Mazda (and many others) have a tuner and amp unit (TAU) located on the right of the glove box, which is separate from the head unit. I would like to know where to wire the Alpine booster into the car’s existing wiring. I’m not sure it’ll work if it is wired behind the head unit because that may be in line ahead of the TAU. Any suggestions or experience with this?

Has anyone out there installed an Alpine KTP-445U in a 2014+ Mazda3 with TAU?

If so, where did you wire it into the car – behind the head unit or by the TAU?

Have you had any problems with using it?

This should be relatively straightforward but you'll have to do some soldering.

Basically the loom that comes with the PAC taps the speaker signal at the TAU (white plug) to give a line out but then allows it to continue onto the factory speakers (brown plug) - basically designed to tap a factory system to allow you to add a sub.

What you'll need to do is snip those passthrough speaker wires as close as you can to the white plug and connect the now free wires to the output of the KTP. Here's one I prepared earlier. I actually extracted the pins and soldered new cable on for a neater finish. Those new cables go to my amp output. I'm not using a KTP but the setup is the same.

Pull the factory white plug out of the TAU, insert PAC white plug, then join PAC brown plug to factory white plug, connect the RCA cables and you should be up and running.

😱 You’re a life saver. I’ve been looking for this for the longest and couldn’t find it anywhere. I was about to return the PAC LOC. I just finished installing a four channel Boss amp and a Rockville spare tire sub. I had already upgraded the speakers a few months ago. I love the sound. I still have to play around with and fine tune it but I’m so excited for my new system. Never thought I would say this but I can’t wait to go to work tomorrow! Lol. Thanks a lot

I’m a Year late if you don’t need help anymore …
I hope this helps someone in the future!
The only purpose of white plug is so you don’t have to use wire T taps THAT’S it! Don’t overthink it 😉

Do this …
Take white plug you’ll see 8 wires!
Purple/purple with stripe
Green/green with stripe
Gray/ gray with stripe
White/ white with stripe
But there are actually 2 of each wire in same hole in the plug!
(Look at above first picture)

Cut
ONLY ONLY ONLY
1 of each of the ones I listed’

example there are 4 green wires total
2 green and 2 green with a Stripe

Cut only 1 of the green wires and 1 of the green wires w/stripe
Do the same for the purple/gray/white

Now plug white plug into TAU behind your glove box and FORGET it exists.
You are done with that plug

Now look at the Brown plug you’ll have 8 “dangling” wires

1 green 1 green w/stripe
1 purple 1 purple w/stripe
1 gray 1 gray w/stripe
1 white 1 white w/ stripe
Strip the ends of each of those “dangling”wires

NOW …behind glove box take the FACTORY plug and plug it into the brown connector

The 8 wires you stripped will now connect to the output wires on your amp..
the input signal to your amp is you just plug rca into blue box and other end to amp input

Green/ Purple are your 2 rear speakers
Gray/ white are your 2 front speakers

Solid color = positive
Color w/ stripe = Negative

EXAMPLE
Purple = positive
Purple w/stripe = negative
connect those 8 wires to the amp’
BOOM! GREAT JOB YOU DID IT!

I think What confused you
Was when he cut 1 of each color you though it cut those wires out it didn’t because remember there were 2 of each of the same color wire in the same hole on white plug’

On his brown plug all he did was take out those 8 dangling wires aka
1 green 1 green w/stripe etc and used speaker wire instead of using the colored wire’ You could do the same but it’s not needed’

Really hope it helps someone as it took a good 45 mins to try and explain lol’

Hi
Thanks for the explanation.

What would be the reason for Cutting only 1 of the green wires and 1 of the green wires w/stripe
Do the same for the purple/gray/white?
I mean what would be the result of this?

And for the other plug:
"Now look at the Brown plug you’ll have 8 “dangling” wires,
Strip the ends of each of those “dangling”wires

NOW …behind glove box take the FACTORY plug and plug it into the brown connector

The 8 wires you stripped will now connect to the output wires on your amp"

How The 8 wires you stripped will now connect to the output wires on your amp??
