I asked my service advisor if they were still updating the maps on my 2015 and he said yes but for the same price $450 my current infotainment system is upgradable to Apple Car Play. Anyone else done this? How do you like it? Is this a good price?

I did it (for AA rather than CP) on all previous Mazda cars that didn't have it as standard. The Mazda satnav system is pretty rubbish. Doubt if you would regret the upgrade as it adds so much else eg spotify etc. I can't say whether the price is fair. Some get the necessary kit and do it themselves. I always got the dealer to fit mine. I would email Mazda customer service and politely complain about how bad the standard system was and how AA/CP should be standard. A coupe of times they made a financial contribution making the dealer fit cheaper than doing it myself.

Doing it next week. List price here in NL is EUR 345. Found two dealers who would do it for EUR 299, one of them dropped to EUR 249 if already had a recent enough version installed (version 70+). May be worth some calls if you have multiple dealers within range.

Although the Mazda nav is pretty good (here in NL anyway), I prefer the CarPlay experience where I can easily switch to my podcasts, music, etc. (Our other car - an Ioniq has CarPlay). Mazda may be able to play all those too, but it's an additional hassle which you don't have to got through with CarPlay or Android Auto.

I did it for $150 on my 2016. I bought the genuine Mazda OEM USB port and cables for CarPlay and installed it myself. No more difficult than changing a car radio unit. Plenty of installation videos online.

The car feels 5 years newer with CarPlay.

Had it done yesterday. Very happy with it! Definitely worth the investment. Both Android Auto and CarPlay work well.

In my case it was EUR 105 for replica components (which I did not want), EUR 200 for genuine Mazda components or EUR 249 to have Mazda do it for me. Perhaps I should have looked harder for a deal on genuine components, but with what I had in front of me the difference was too small for me to want to do it myself.

All that said, if for some reason no cheaper options are available to @ChasePD, $450 is still worth it in my opinion.

The navigation system in your 2015 is not capable receiving live traffic updates etc. So, it’s just a turn-by turn map. No rerouting around traffic or closures, warning you of hazards, etc. CarPlay and Android Auto are the much better deal, in my opinion.

$450 is a decent price to have the dealer take care of you. My dealer charges $500 but I decided to do it myself for about $150 because I’m cheap and love to tinker. It required updating the head unit software then installing the new cables and usb unit. I enjoyed doing it but most would find it a huge time consuming hassle… especially if you screwed something up. If you have the extra $350 to spare and don’t live to make yourself unnecessary work, just pay to have it done. Easy peasy.

I was told to use a 16G 2.0 USB thumb drive formatted FAT32. Windows 10 will not format FAT32 above a particular size. The size of the thumb drive I had was above this size. I had to do some google searching and YouTube videos, tons of them, and free open shareware to format a larger thumb drive to FAT32.
