Yes to intake and im posting pictures now. the sound is very noticeable INSIDE ONLY (but not to the degree of a tin can Honda) just very noticeable. The funny part is I had my friend stand on the road and he tells me its not loud when zooming past him on high 2nd and 3rd, I have yet to hear it myself from the outside other than standing next to it just sounds like 'deep throat bass exhaust note" is the best way i can describe it. Having the pleasure of recently driving a 2016 TLX with an open and exposed INTAKE only as a modification I can honestly say the roaring sound coming from the engine bay is very similar to the exhaust note I get from this Mazda. I have same sound from the v6 minus i-vtec and 100 horsepower. On performance I do want to make one thing clear, this modification at least for me has caused 2nd gear and sometimes 3rd to dip or lag in performance under 2000rpm, its very noticeable but enjoyable because if you understand how backpressure works on exhaust than youll be fine. After 2000rpm ? Yes its fun and very much a performance gain for me dyno or not I CANNOT GO back to a stock silent muffler since I gained so much from this. The free flow exhaust combined with 30-40 pounds removed from a front wheel drive car is noticeable

Sorry for the lengthy recap but I understand the importance of loudness so I will record video and post a video link soon

p.s

Im creating a seperate thread for air intake modification

Thanks for the comment but it was so cheap getting the pipe bent and installed for $60 I couldn't pass this up. My suggestion is that if you are curious to test this set up do what I did and remove 2 bolts from the muffler and with some wd-40 those rubber pieces come out very easily. Turn your car on and listen to the sound before going out and spending $60. Don't get me wrong you cant compare the craftsmanship that goes into a $700+ exhaust muffler but for this set ups functionality I can deal with the sound. Also if decibel ratings or BAR is of a concern I saved my stock exhaust so just in case I can bolt it up in less than 30 min back to stock sound :)

ill update this post with sound from a distance

IMHO, this is just plain stupid. Why run your car without a muffler & add to all the noise pollution that's already out there? A little louder muffler, like my Racing Beat, I can tolerate, but no muffler at all? Sorry, that's just looney & irresponsible, just to get a louder exhaust sound, for a road-use car. On a track or drag strip, no problem.

If you can't understand this, maybe a nice Police Officer can explain it to you when he pulls you over.......

I didn't just remove the muffler I replaced it with a pipe. Big difference, your opinion has merit but its why I did my homework. My friend has a test only station here in SoCal and I just left, smog test ACTUALLY DOES PASS because the catalytic converter did not get touched and also NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT is on, when you delete the muffler this will not be affected, I have pictures as proof. My warranty is also still in effect. He also measured the decibel rating as courtesy, 92. Thanks for the opinion Mike but unless you live in a state that has more air restrictions than California, here at least this set up works and IS LEGAL.

I had my 99' Trans Am running open longtube hooker headers paired with a big lift cam and full intake (air box, MAF, throttle body, intake manifold)

Now THAT was loud - and I ran it like that daily for years and never got pulled over for it here in Texas
The idle alone could set off car alarms

I miss it, but I would never run a car like this with any kind of exhaust, much less straight pipes.. it sounds like ass

Ass is also a good reference but I don't drive aggressive or let alone drive the way it appears in the video even though it's more sound than speed. This modification is not for everyone but provides reference to something that doesnt exist. It's why I still have my factory exhaust which I can bolt anytime. I just like having choices. Your opinions are welcomed

Don't want to sound harsh, but it doesn't sound good :( Doesn't sound anywhere close to a v6, just sounds like a 4banger trying to be a v8. I don't know if it's worth losing some torque down low just to get some sound. Did you just do a single exhaust?

Stock exhaust is pretty quiet, even on my 2.5L. What I did was removed the stock resonator and put a smaller one in, smallest I can find. Didn't do a straight pipe because I didn't want that buzzy poppy tin can sound. Having a smaller resonator gave me deeper, slightly louder and sportier sound when accelerating. But yeah, the stock resonator was quite big and heavy too. I probably shed 10+ pounds off by going with a smaller one. This mod might not do for some who's looking for more sound tho lol

Sound is the most impacted and even I get tired of it but its the high end that I was going for. The high end power is much more noticeable and it's what I need it for. I hardly drive the car on the street I live close to a mountain road and low end is not of my concern. Thanks for the informative comment but I hope everyone that doesn't know will understand this set up makes you lose power on the low end torque band. In the driver seat it's more than noticeable with the car dipping under or around 2000rpm. In regards to your question of single or dual, I went with single. Dual on this from the factory is overkill, the reason I believe it was done is to lower the loud exhaust from the rams effect coming from the headers. I understand dual exhaust on a G35 maybe a s2000(even though most are aware S2000 never performed well with a dual exhaust) I'm waiting to see the first single outlet performance exhaust for this Mazda. I just don't like the idea of an underpowered car having dual exhaust. Thanks for mentioning your resonator it's something I will look into.
