removed 40 lb ? exhaust and installed straight pipe.
Sound is the most impacted and even I get tired of it but its the high end that I was going for. The high end power is much more noticeable and it's what I need it for. I hardly drive the car on the street I live close to a mountain road and low end is not of my concern. Thanks for the informative comment but I hope everyone that doesn't know will understand this set up makes you lose power on the low end torque band. In the driver seat it's more than noticeable with the car dipping under or around 2000rpm. In regards to your question of single or dual, I went with single. Dual on this from the factory is overkill, the reason I believe it was done is to lower the loud exhaust from the rams effect coming from the headers. I understand dual exhaust on a G35 maybe a s2000(even though most are aware S2000 never performed well with a dual exhaust) I'm waiting to see the first single outlet performance exhaust for this Mazda. I just don't like the idea of an underpowered car having dual exhaust. Thanks for mentioning your resonator it's something I will look into.Don't want to sound harsh, but it doesn't sound goodDoesn't sound anywhere close to a v6, just sounds like a 4banger trying to be a v8. I don't know if it's worth losing some torque down low just to get some sound. Did you just do a single exhaust?![]()
Stock exhaust is pretty quiet, even on my 2.5L. What I did was removed the stock resonator and put a smaller one in, smallest I can find. Didn't do a straight pipe because I didn't want that buzzy poppy tin can sound. Having a smaller resonator gave me deeper, slightly louder and sportier sound when accelerating. But yeah, the stock resonator was quite big and heavy too. I probably shed 10+ pounds off by going with a smaller one. This mod might not do for some who's looking for more sound tho lol
