Hi,

Not much info about thia on the internet, but I have seen it done. I have 2 original Mazda SD cards, both virgin, not linked to a car. What about the procedure of cloning these cards, is it just a thing of editing the cards CID and copying the files?

AFAIK only the Samsung microsds CID can be changed, but I have seen a "team" brand micro sd in the system cloned.

Thanks in advance

Simple copying didn't work for me - you need to use imaging. For the European cars, Mazda SD cards have tight security for which imaging is the answer rather than copying. I used win32diskimager to make an image of my Mazda SD nav card and to copy that image to a backup SD card. Both SD cards work in the car - see Win32 Disk Imager

Both cards are locked to a single car's VIN.

1. Backup and update the original SD card in Mazda Toolbox
2. Copy an image of the OEM SD nav card to a directory of choice using Win32DiskImager
3. Restore the above image to the backup SD card using Win32DiskImager
4. Adjust partition size on the backup SD card if required using MiniTool Partition Wizard
5. Verify the backup SD card using Mazda Toolbox

Right, I have two more questions. Will the update and backup in mazda toolbox work without the card being linked to a car? Does the backup SD card need to be CID edited for it to work?

Maybe I was not clear, but I want my original virgin SD card to work as a new card, so I can put it in whatever car I like to pair it to.

When I bought one of the navigation cards on eBay the first thing I did was make an image of the unused card. Then I tried to see if the card would work if the filename of the .lyc file was slightly modified (specifically the last part which looks like some sort of encoded/encrypted value). It did not work. When I reverted the file name back to the original, the card worked.

I have not tried to see if the card would work if the file name is modified after it is paired to the vehicle. My guess is that it will not work and that the CID of the card is encoded in this string and always checked.

Mazda Toolbox on the other hand does not care about the CID since it cannot check it. I confirmed this by downloading an image of a random nav sd card from online, flashing it onto a normal sd card, then replacing the device.nng file in licenses with the one from my vehicle's card. The fake card was detected by Mazda Toolbox but did not work in my car.

Right,

But if sc489's method works, the procedure to copy unlimited cards would be as follows.

1.You have one original unpaired card (or cid editable card, clone of original), you go ahead and pair it with a car (travel 100km or enter your first route can do it also AFAIK)
2.After it is paired, according to sc489 it can be imaged to whatever microsd that you like, because it presumably creates a file with the license on the card. Now you have a working clone in your car
3.After you pair and image your original card to a clone, you just revert the original card to the unpaired state, so you can pair it to the next car..

I have seen a guy locally do these cards, and he somehow clones them to generic cards. It's probably this way I explained, but this isn't documented anywhere
