Hi, I have a 2012 Mazda 3 with the skyactiv engine. It has only 70000 miles on it. I am having a problem whenever I put the car into drive from either park or reverse. It takes about 10 seconds for the car to go into drive and then it jerks forward if I put my foot on the gas. We took it to a local mechanic and he couldn't figure it out. Took it to a Mazda dealer today, they couldn't figure it out. They called Mazda and they told them I need a new transmission!!!!! This is crazy, I don't drive it like a race car driver. What could this be? They wanted $5100 for the new trans!!!! Has anyone out there had this problem and what was the solution?

Have you replaced the old transmission fluid? I'd put in new ATF and see what the shift results are. I dumped my fluid when I had 17k and the fluid was a light brown replaced 9 qts with redline D4 ATF. And every 10k I drain the ATF pan of 3 qts and refill with Redline D4. My 2011 is doing fine. If the replacement of fluid doesn't help I'd check a salvage yard for a 2012/2013 sky transmission from a totaled rear ended Mazda 3.:surprise:
Sad story and scary. I own the same year and model and trans. Sounds like a shifting solenoid not engaging. TSB fix? But really, a lot of things can go wrong in there.
I have the exact same car with only 37000km on it. It happens to me occasionally. Sometimes if I shift too fast from park to drive, or if it's really cold out (-5 Celsius or below). I can tell you though, I drive my car hard. I gun it, and put a lot of unnecessary stress on the tranny, but it sounds like your issue is much more serious if it's happening all the time.
