Front bumper edge bumpers popping out

Hello,

Was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the issue where the front bumper’s edge bumpers keep popping off?
It happens to me all the time, especially on the highway, i’m guessing the air goes underneath and pushes it off, also the pressure applied to the middle of the bumper has a big impact on it I guess.
This is a brand new bumper, just replaced it a while ago, the issue was present with the old one and the new one alike, although was hoping it would solve it..
I looked at the plans and could see no parts between the front bumper and the chassis that i could find at least, anyone has any ideas?
At this point i’m thinking of putting foam inbetween so something keeps it there.

Thanks and regards,
L.

I have the same issue, but only from the right side. I haven't found what causes it. I know that my car had a not too serious front collision, and the bumper has been changed. I suspected that because of it a minor change in angle/position of the front fender might have occurred that prevents the perfect fit.

I have noticed that this week it stays in place, but the temperature outside is 10 degC colder than in the previous weeks.

Oh, I don’t have that. But I have seen other cars have issues. There is usually a bolted on bracket and/or clips integrated into the headlight the bumper snaps into.

i have seen people fabricate shims to make them clip in more securely. You might try this with a soda can or similar material. Worth a shot, only cost time and a coke.

Oh I am actually glad to see someone else has this problem as I thought my car was faulty in some way. I am able to pop the sides in but they keep popping out again. My car is exactly as shown in leventeboda93's pictures in his post above. I'm going to see the dealer tomorrow because I am also having trouble with the bluetooth system not automatically connecting.
Is there a simple fix for this problem? I know I haven't hit anything or nudged anything with that bumper...there's not a mark on it.

A timely thread for me. I was about to post a new one.

This was a minor pre-existing problem with the left corner of the front bumper cover when I bought my 2018 five years ago. The tab for the retaining screw was split by some kind of incident before I bought the car, and it may no longer be fixable by tightening the hell out of the screw.

I'm curious to see what kind of retainers owners have installed on the BM/BN-series. External quick-release poles and bands are popular for both practical and silly reasons, but I'm not so eager to drill into the fenders for that. Has anyone here installed those or some other solution for the 3rd-gen? Do you have photos?

Oh well... today, I simply applied a well-calibrated moment of gorilla torque to the 8mm hex screw just ahead of the broken tab. Problem fixed, until I take it all off to install new horns.

Another option.. using rivet nuts and bolts to replace the push clips.

I did it on my under tray as the push clips kept breaking or falling out..

Here's a link for a tool that's cheap and works.. just figure out the hole diameter and get the correct one.

I may investigate using rivet nuts in a different way, perhaps two on the outside with a small finished alloy plate and M6 hex screws (instead of quick-release solution, which may not hold it flush). The corner is popping out again, and any more gorilla tightening may worsen the problem. :-/

Finally, I found some time last weekend to replace the front right bumper retainer with OEM nr BHN1-50-T1F as on my pictures above. When I removed the old retainer, I found out that the installed one was not an original Mazda part (see pic below). When the previous owner had replaced the front bumper, he had to replace this retainer and he have chosen some alternative brand.

When I replaced it with the new OEM retainer and clicked the bumper end into it – boy you feel the difference the original part makes. It clicked somehow different than old one and stays into it rock solid. I was driving for the last two days long and shot distance, bumpy roads, and temperature outside is above 34C and the bumper end stays in place as it should. Problem solved.

The OEM part cost under 20$, so no reason to save money on it and then suffer.

This is how the original part looks like.
