Updates of the firmware do not bring along new features - just bugfixes. So if you do not have any bugs that annoy you, I would stick with the current version (never change a running system). Otherwise you can directly update to the latest version 74.00.324 (see this thread: NEW 74 Mazda CONNECT MZD Firmware ,CP/AA, WCP, Help ) or let your dealer do it.

This is incorrect. To be CarPlay ready would require firmware 70+. Sounds like "new features" to me. I always recommend updating to current level.

Same here, I want to upgrade for CP/AA with the USB module, cheaper to do it myself.

You MUST have ver. 70+ PRIOR to hub install.

@Tristan-cx5 nowhere did I say the firmware alone brings CarPlay. However the hardware will not function without it. Therefore the update does include new features to enable CarPlay.
