Firmware update

@nsxtech The firmware update alone(!) does not bring along CarPlay - and I only talked about firmware updates... of course, if you install the new hub+2 new cables, you have AA/CP when prior to HW install 70.00.021 or higher was installed.

Strange that you do not have a touch screen - as far as I know every MZD has a touch screen which should work, when the car stands still.

If even this is not working, then maybe it is broken or got de-activated by the former owner of the car. Search for SSPB6 in this forum - this is about changing a defective screen. Maybe others have more info about this...

But just a firmware update will not activate the touchscreen.

Mute/Pause is possible via AIO Tweaks - or from factory when using a firmware 70 or higher.
Video is possible via AIO Tweaks only (I never used it).

AIO Tweaks can not be installed via USB anymore from 59.00.502 or higher (you could install the ID7 tweak at a version lower than 59.00.502 from AIO and then tweaks will work after a FW update up to/including 70.00.100)... so you could try them at your firmware version or you update. Your choice.

Latest firmware version is 74.00.324 - you could directly install it - there is no restriction known of Mazda to install an in between version. But to be safe you could install 70.00.100 in between. And no, you do not have to install all versions in between.

Correct, you can install AIO tweaks via USB in your car. If you want to install AIO Tweaks with your FW version, then go to www.mazdatweaks.com - download AIO 2.8.6 - install it to your computer. In AIO are the tweaks - also ID7/Autorun. These you have to copy to a FAT32 formatted USB drive (best USB 2.0 max. 32 GB, some higher will work, some usb drives will not work at all) and stick it in the car when ACC or Engine is running. Follow install instructions on the screen.
And yes, you can install ID7/Autorun, then update to 70.00.100, which has mute on pause included. Below FW 70 you would have to install this feature as AIO tweak. But FW 70 is not supported by the AIO AA (Android Auto) tweak.

Correct, the option "skip confirmation" in AIO helps, if touch is not working and you want to install AIO tweaks.

Regarding your previous Edit #2:
If you do not install the ID7/Autorun tweak prior to the FW update, then yes, you will loose the ability to install tweaks, once 59.00.502 or higher is installed. From 59.00.502-70.00.100 you can enable the system to install tweaks via usb again via serial access only: www.mazdatweaks.com/serial
If you stay at FW v55 (and do not update to FW 59 or 70), you still have the ability to install AIO tweaks via USB.
I think the ID7, aka Auto Run, is what will allow me to always be able to just use USB without having the need to serial port.. correct? -> correct. from 59.00.502 up to/including 70.00.100.

@hexer1004 - see official info from back then attached. This info is not valid anymore for the latest FW 74 (as far as I know). So in your case with 56.00.230 installed, you are fine to install 70.00.367 directly. Only if you would have an older version than 56.00.100 installed, you should have installed 70.00.100 in between.

@bbourizk and @CollegeBrian : If you install FW 70 or 74 you still have to install the new usb hub + 2 new cables to automatically get AA/CP. See the following linked thread for more info. Ask ASH8 for the latest FW 74.
