Creaking Noise When Cold Accelerating or Stopping

Hello,

I've been having an odd issue with my 2013 Mazda 3 skyactive sport that has 74,000km. The car makes a weird creaking sound when I accelerate, brake or start the car and it sounds like its coming from the driver side. It only happens when its cold outside and it lasts for maybe 10 minutes, after that it never comes back and only starts again once I let the car sit all night outside and start it up again.

I've brought it to the Mazda dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong. I also brought it to a second shop and they also couldn't find anything wrong.

I don't have any audio of it right now, but I will get some tomorrow or day after.

Your help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

that's a suspension problem. probably a worn bushing. all bushings should be checked for cracking/wear. to test, you can spray some lubricant into them and see if that makes the creaking stop. i recommend using silicone grease.. do one at a time to figure out which one it is.

while you're at it, give the suspension a full check. ball joints is possible but usually presents with popping or excessive play. ball joints and sway bar links could present excessive play as well. check your wheel bearings.

think about when this creaking happens. does it only happen on acceleration or braking? how about cornering?

Thanks for the replies.

I had the car checked out again by a different mechanic. He checked suspension, heat shield, mounts in the engine, sway bar etc, he found nothing.

Im at a loss at this point. That’s 3 mechanics that don’t know why it’s making this loud creaking ticking noise. It’s only happening when it’s colder outside, and for about 5-10 minutes depending on how cold it is. The colder it is the louder is it and the longer it lasts.

Checking bushings isn't hard, the issue here is that the mechanics are not looking at the car when it's cold. Can't diagnose what isn't there.

Get some silicone spray lubricant. Take it out when it's creeking. Spray a bushing with the silicone and drive again. When the noise stops you've found the defective bushing. Tell your mechanic which one to replace.
