What is our top speed? Also, if it is limited, how do you remove the speed limiter?

i read that mazda sets the speed limiter at 135. i think i read that on their website, in case you wish to google.

having a 2018 mazda3, i believe the cars will reach that limiter before being friction limited by tire/road and air.

no idea if it can be removed though. you would probably need some type of info form the forscan forum guys

i was wrong, i found this on a mazda dealer website. nothing specific for 23 yet though

"The engine can push the 2020 Mazda3 to a top speed of 131 mph pretty comfortably. It very well might be able to exceed those speeds, but the engine does have a governor on it to protect against high-end engine wear. "

The figures have always been pretty much the same, other than what times people manage to get from a dig stock based on how they launch and shift, etc. Top speed has always been ~130MPH, power at the crank stock is 227/250hp, 310/320tq (87/93), and average tuned JB4/tune dig times are ~5.2 0-60 and 13.5 1/4 mile. Modded, we typically have ~250-260/340-360 wheel hp/tq (drivetrain loss over stock crank power eliminated), with the very latest tune revisions now pushing the difference over just a JB4 finally up a bit more.

Yes, it's governed to ~130-131 MPH and defeating that would have to happen as part of a flash tune. Which of course, would void your drivetrain warranty if they decide to check for stock tune and even if you flash back to stock they can check for flash counts if you made a warranty claim. While technically they would have to "prove" your mod caused or contributed to the failure that's enough evidence to legally deny warranty. They pretty much have legal precedence established that proof you have been tuned can void the warranty of claims related to engine failure. You could always try to fight it, but it would be far, far from worth it.

Now, anecdotally, the community as a whole hasn't had any stories of warranty work denied but that could just mean that these engines are quite reliable, which they are, so many of us just enjoy the car and not worry about it, but that's a whole other conversation. :)

Never really tested it as the engine isn't designed for that kind of abuse.

During data logging for the tune on 91 octane with a throttle recalibration.. all done on a dyno (of course).. 2nd gear wide open throttle (WOT) maxed out at 102 mph.. 3rd gear WOT maxed out at 122 mph.. max power band peaked in the 5.5 to 6k RPM range and dropped off fast from there.
