At this time , it's done it twice. The engine has reved on its own to about 3k and stopped. Both times I was not in gear which is good and I was coming to a stop. I am scheduled to take it in Thursday to have it looked at, also both driver and passenger doors rattle and I've taken the car in 3 times already for that with no resolution.

Anybody else had such troubles?

i'd like to see this duplicated to the technician... what mods are on the car?

mines done that to me a couple of times under similar circumstances. it happens at random too. i'm not particularly worried because i know as high as it revs, because it is unloaded, the throttle isn't open that much. it might be the e-throttle, it could be the throttle plate sticking a little bit. i've maybe experienced it 3 or 4 times (if that) during my ownership of the car, and i haven't experienced any unwanted surges of acceleration (which are more dangerous)...so like i said, i'm not that worried

I'm assuming you have a manual trans... I have an auto trans 3i touring with 10000 miles and never had that problem! Talk to the dealership is my only advice!!!

Good luck!

sorry, forgot to include, mines a manual transmission 3i w/ 11k. It revs to about 2500-3000 and hangs there for about a second or so when coasting. I used to think it was because I had my foot still slightly on the accelerator (because thats how the engine response sounds, and before that I've only had cars w/ stiffer throttle pedals, and during the winter I wear big boots) but about 2-3rd it happened I deliberately took my foot away from that area and the engine still hung there.

Still, not worth a trip to the dealer in my mind, but thats just me

I also have had that problem i would like to hear what the dealer has to say but like spwalker im not to worried yet.
keep us posted

This happens with the A/C compressor off? Weird and scary...........keep us updated. I'm interested to find out what's going on.

I traded my 06 Tacoma TRD for the Mazda..

The car is a MT and I have been out of gear when it's done this, I'm not too worried either but I want to let them know and also HOPE to get my rattling doors fixed. This is the 4th time I'm taking it in for that issue, if it is still not fixed I'll be perusing the lemon law.

Scheduled appointment for Thursday morning so, I can give everybody an update after that. More than likely they'll keep the car a few days since I'm taking it in for so many different problems.

I've had that happen to me a few times too. It hasn't happened for a few months, and it also doesn't worry me too much. I'll have it check my next schedule maintenance.

From the title of the thread I thought this phenomenon was limited to the 3i manual. I have the 3s 6-speed but haven't had this happen ever. Mine is an early 2010 model (about a year old now). I wonder if there were any software changes in the 2010.5 models that could be causing this.

Took the car in today, and the service person claimed this is normal in a MT car, when pulling the car out of gear and still moving. I've owned quite a few MT cars and never had this problem. Even a 1990 Miata.. since this has only happened while out of gear and quickly goes away I'm not too worried about it. I'm more worried about the noises from the doors, we took the car for a test drive and I showed him the noises and they took the car into the shop and probably will have it for near a week considering all the problems I'm having. Until then I got a loaner :(

I've been driving MTs for 40 years; this is the first time this has ever happened to me (5th car with an all-electronic throttle system, too - and I've been driving MT cars now for ... 41 years!). I also notice the engine will continue to increase RPMs during quick shifts when you lift off the throttle; at first i thought maybe I didn't take my foot completely off the gas when shifting, but I've double & triple checked and - no, it's not me. The computer is slightly mis-calibrated.

yeah, mine's done this as well, the clutch is typically depressed or its out of gear, either coming to a stop or at a stop. It's gotta be the electronic throttle. POS, give me an actual cable please.

edit: and I got my car a year ago, so even the early model 2010's are not safe~

That's a bit different though.....I think that feature is pretty neat on the 370's, but like you said...the car is expensive!!

Mine has reved by its self also, Glad im not the only one. So is it a recal? or nothing to worry about?

I suspect this is part of the ecu programming. If you put the car in first, feather it up to 3500 rpm and then release the gas pedal, the car will still get a small bit of power before slowing normally. For the most part it 'hangs' at 2700 rpm.

Someone else explained this as the ecu burning off the extra fuel which is already in the system. This would presumably help reduce emissions, save the catalytic converters undue wear or both.

I'd assume that pushing in the clutch/shifting to neutral just lets you notice this behaviour to a higher degree.

man, idk how you guys wind up with all these problems. squeaks, creaky clutch, trouble shifting to first, random revving... my car's never done any of that.

anyway, my money's on the random revving to be a vacuum leak of some sort.

as for the the rev hang, that's an issue of drive-by-wire, not specific to our car or ecu.

Curious..how many of y'all who this has ACTUALLY happened to you have a PZEV-emissions Mazda3. Someone mentioned it might be emissions-related...mines a PZEV vehicle btw...so maybe that might be just some tacked-on programming...
