Hello Everybody,
Just hit 1,000 miles in my 2019 hatchback and that means it's time for a review.
First we will start off with the good.
-I am averaging about 28.5 MPG with mostly highway driving with the a/c on most of the time. I suspect the mileage will get even better as the engine breaks in.
-There are no squeaks or rattles anywhere in the cabin, in addition, it's very quiet, even at 75 mph.
-The sunroof works perfect and when open, it's still reasonably quiet in the cabin.
-All the electronics work flawlessly. The radio is crystal clear whether I am listening to FM, Satellite or my USB drive.
-The blue tooth audio streaming from my phone is very quick with no delays. The phone quality is crystal clear.
-The headlights work excellent at night and really light up the road. The automatic high beam "on/off" feature is a wonderful piece of technology that works great as well.
-The automatic rain-sensing windshield wipers work as exactly as they should.
-The radar cruise control keeps the speed steady and matches the speed of the vehicle in front with no issues.
-The braking is very smooth and stops the car on a dime.
-The engine has more than enough power to get you going and the cylinder deactivation is seamless.
-The heads up display is super clear and shows the driving speed, road signs and navigation spot on.
-The navigation system ($400 option) works great and I highly recommend it.
-The drivers seat is very comfortable and the lumbar support is right where you need it.
-The overall interior fit and finish is the tip of the spear for its class.
-The suspension is not too firm and easily absorbs the New Jersey potholes.
-The exterior paint is excellent and really looks fabulous in the sun.
-The black rims look great and give the car a nice aggressive look.
-The exterior styling is beautiful and the strong C pillar give the car a fastback/ shooting brake appearance that sets it apart from all the other boring cars on the road.
-The rear camera, lane changing assist and all the safety gadgets work great.
-The gas tank is on the drivers side (you might love that)
-The cup holders are front and center. Exactly where they should be.
-The e-brake is electronic (you might like that)
-Real spare tire and jack. Thank you Mazda!
Now The Bad
- Getting in and out might be a tad tough for some as the roof line swoops low.
- The gas mileage is not the best, but it's certainly not the worst.
- The rear view visibility is not the best but simply removing the rear headrests or folding down the rear seats fixes that easily.
- The gas tank is on the drivers side (you might hate that)
- The e-brake is electronic (you might hate that)
- The price is not the cheapest but it is worth it
-Warranty is three years bumper to bumper and five years on the power train. Certainly not the best in class.
And finally The Ugly
-Had to take it in for a simple service. The axle nut was loose and it was making a popping sound. Tightening the nut fixed it right up.
Final thoughts:
My previous cars have all been BMW's, Porsche's and Jaguar's and I can confidently say that this car is on par with them in some areas and even exceeds them in a few.
Great job Mazda.
