My brother in law suggests I downsize new winter tires and rims from 18" to 16".

I have a 2017 Mazda3 GT 4 door.

Will there be any problem with sizing over the brakes?

Tire rack does recommend a package of Michelins @ 16".

Running 16" winters on my '17 M3 GT with no issues.

Indeed 16" are recommended for winter with 205/60 tires. No issues with Mazda 16" wheels.

Yes, I have also used 16's for the winter. (best to get a spare set of rims)
I am currently running 18's as my winter setup as we dont get alot of snow.

I am running 205/60/16 General Arctic 12's on some lightweight wheels from Tire Rack. 8lbs lighter per corner, car is much more responsive off the line than the OEM 18" boat anchors.

Ended up with Blizzaks and dedicated rims. Only light snow so far but I can't wait to try them out.
