Windshield Crack

Hey guys
Need some advice about the following issue:
unfortunately I have a crack on my windshield. I have a 2022 Mazda 3 Model. my insurance policy covering this issue with a Genuine Mazda Part. So far So good :) My Concern is regarding the Repair Shop that would do the repair...
the Auto shop is registered as one of many that are working under my insurance for such repairs.
First of all, How should I ensure that I am getting the Genuine part and not a replacement? I know that there is a Mazda sticker on the bottom left of the windshield, is there anything else that I should pay attention to?
Also, is there any risk to the sensors on the upper part of the windshield that may not function properly after the installation? this is what I am the most afraid of...
I will be glad to hear if any of you dealed with such issue, and off coarse any suggestions for this matter will be highly appreciated

Make sure it has the Mazda symbol on the glass like your original one. The sensors get recalibrated when the glass is replaced .... that's why the new glass is so expensive.
Thanks man. Didn't know about the recalibration.
Who is in in charge of that? the same autoshop that doing the glass repair or I need to go back to my authorizes dealers garage?

Well, apparently not. I went to the glass repair shop, just to sniff around
they said that after installation of the new windshield, everything should work fine, no calibration needed. and if after all something is not functioning correctly (usually indication lamp lid) I should go to the authorized garage for computer calibration.

That's odd. Had a screen replaced on my wife's bn gt about a year ago and they did the calibration.
Gave me the print out for it too

have had 2 shield replacements. last one done at safelite on geico insurance under my comprehensive coverage of $250-my cost and was happy. geico was going to complicate claim if i demanded a dealer replacement. so did not have a mazda emblem as you mentioned. it is standard with my dealer to recalibrate camera and price included shield and recalibrate. funny this 2nd shield while talking about replacement with a dealer rep, he was so coy and would not tell me who would do work as dealer would send out the job for about $1200 total cost as it was stone breakage not covered by warranty. i suspect the job might have gone to safelite. hope your state has safelite. my first claim was apparently a pressure shock fracture apparently from striking a pothole and dealer charged corporate for about $1200 while free replacement to me. have no idea who did install.

Did you already get the windshield replacement?

If not, I DO NOT recommend safelite. I got my windshield replaced twice, both safelite and noticed optional distortion with my HUD. I’ve gotten used to it, but it was so bad in the beginning it made me dizzy.

yes, i stated i admired their work. my decision based on vagueness of dealers service manager, complications with geico, and my own decision to watch my wallet. dont know your safelite area but was very pleased with woodlands, texas safelite work. the ws manufacturers name is fuyao made is usa. says acoustic and tinted.

Was that caused by a rock?

Do you have HUD on your 3?

+1 for avoiding safelite. Also worth noting they can't calibrate your forward camera if you have any wheel/tire/suspension modifications, even running snow tires in factory recommended size. Safelite claimed only the dealership can calibrate it otherwise (in violation of right to repair law in many places?)

Is the Safelite windshield for HUD cars the Pilkington? I had an independent shop replace mine, but my local insurance company's glass coverage is via Safelite and they refused the minor real world upcharge for the OEM glass, so the Pilkington I got. Similarly, optical distortion in the HUD, also a waviness in the glass on the passenger side. I think the Pilkington part is probably junk, but worse is Mazda claims the Pilkington glass is defective as well. For what it's worth, my glass installer's cost to get the OEM vs the Pilkington was only around $200 more. I would have happily paid that out of pocket to avoid the massive headache the aftermarket one has been.

This is a warning to everyone here, don't let your car get non-Mazda glass. All it takes is one bad dealership service manager too ruin your car owning experience. Mazda North America, who readily admits they have big issues with the service experience, will not help you here.

A little story highlighting how this could be a problem for you:
My forward camera failed 6 months after the glass was replaced. One dealership refused service, another took the car in and broke the windshield clips that hold the camera on. Mazda refuses to cover the replacement windshield because the one they broke was aftermarket, and even refused to replace the camera under warranty. The car won't pass safety inspection where I live with the warning codes, and in about a month can't be registered. One simple defective Mazda component that should have been a free repair under factory warranty, turned into a massive headache all because insurance companies refuse to spend more than the bare minimum and there's apparently no quality control for the aftermarket parts.
