Hello everyone,

My name's Nicolas. I live in France and I bought a Mazda 3 Hatchback there is few month.
My english is really not perfect and I'm sorry for that.

I've read some of your thread in order to find an answer to my question but I didn't find a real good answer that can confirm my situation.

Explanation:
My car is equipped with original Rim/Wheel as detailled below
Wheel : 215 / 45 / 18
Rim : width : 7" / offset : 50

I would like to change my rim be new ones (I won't lower my car) but I'm afraid to choose a new rim which could touch the wheel arch or touch inside the wheel arch (When you make a Uturn for example).
Many of rim are sold with the caracteristic as below
Rim : With 8" / Offset : 40

I've make some simulations by calculation and the new rim shouldn't touch inside the wheel arch when I'll make a Uturn but the wheel/rim should be moved outward by 23 mm of this one !!!
And for me it's not good and my wheel should touch my wheel arch and definitly be out of my wheel arch. (Not authorized in France ...)

When I took a look your forum, some of yours seems having equipped their cars with similar rim but it's not specified or the picture do not let me know if the rim stay inside the wheel arch or just limit.

Do you have an example or have some detail to offer me about my situation.
I continue to investigate from my side but you seem to know a lot about this point.

Thanks by advance
I hope my english was clear.

Have a nice day

I have 19x8 with +45 offset w/ a 5mm spacer on the rear. So that's essentially 19x8 at +40. So they will fit, though you might find that your front wheels sit ever so slightly more flush with the front wheel well as opposed to the rear. I needed the 5mm spacer in the rear so they would sit equally the same with the fender well for both front and back.

The pic will detail what your rear wheels will look like. The fronts won't be too much different. (Sorry for the sideways pic -- some quirky website thing)

I have the same challenge here in the U.S. in the State of Massachusetts. The vehicle is inspected annually and if the wheel is flush with the wheel well, they'll give you a really hard time about it and outright fail the inspection if they believe it's outside the well.

If you're nervous about laws in the France and their interpretation of a wheel "being flush", I might recommend you keep the offset to a +45 on an 8" rim. Hope that helps. Best of luck.

Hello Chazzy,

Your car looks very well ;) juste looks perfect and I really appreciate your pictures (Very helpfull for me).
No issue when you turn ? I mean, the wheel don't touch the car (Inside the wheel arch ?)

The wheel arch and your shock absorder are original (No specific stuff) ?

Sorry I've so many questions but as you mentionned in your reply I'm a bit nervous ^^
The law in france is so strict when you want change something in your car!

But thank you really. Both of you helped me a lot ;)

Have a nice day

Hi. Yes you are correct. The wheels do not rub at all, and the car turns perfect.

The wheel arch, keep in mind my car is lowered on Eibach Springs and Koni shock absorbers. That's a 1" drop in the front and 1.3" in the rear.

Car rides perfect and turns perfect. Hope that helps. Cheers mate
