I'm trying to get a charging cup holder like this[1], but with an internal USB Type C port. Also I would want the charging to happen from an USB port, not a lighter port. Does anybody know something like this for our cars?
I think the USB 2.0 port is rated for 0.5A, and 1.0A for some iPhones. Phones with USB C ports, often have quick charge capability, they require 2A or more current.
I want that port more to connect to Android Auto and keep the damn thing stable. I don't care that much about charging. That's why I want it connected to that port anyway.
I wouldn't rely on the cars USB ports for any type of charging whatsoever. Its built for very basic power needs like a USB stick, that's about it. I Bluetooth all my audio needs and for the occasional other needs I have a USB stick with a selection of other music. @arathol wanna move this thread to the electrical/audio section? Lot more people in that section who know tons about this type of topic.
You ought to be able to power a USB C hub with 12v and connect it to the USB port for data. It would need software to allow the android to charge at more than 500ma. Sounds like a topic for hackerrevolution dot com.
