Has anyone else has the usb connection to their cellphones cycle what seems to me be quite often?

While driving? No, never happens to me. I suggest that you try a different USB cable or plug it into the other USB socket. If all else fails, try a different cell phone.

I had the similar issue when my iPhone is connected to computer (computer detects and loses the phone every second or so going into infinite cycle). Definitely was bad cable - issue disappeared with new cable. Tested the old cable with another computer and another phone - same cycle issue.

Try a known good cable.
