Hello All.

New to the forum, got a 2012 skyactiv in dec, because i need the car i didn't look for ones with special options or anything. i just wanted a manual tranny skyactiv. However, I realize that my car did not come with a Trip computer, I was wondering if anyone have experience in installing one.

You know what, I have a 2012 also. The fact that it's missing was unfortunate at first, but now I can drive without staring at a little screen which ultimately decides the faith of the fun factor of this car. In other words, it's a blessing in disguise. If you're wanting better fuel economy, drive your car as if there is a wooden block behind the gas pedal, don't drive beyond the speed limit and don't let your car idle too long. When you let your car idle, you consume gas but go nowhere.

IMO, it's not worth the trouble. Go, and live with a sense of freedom little buddy! :yes:

Exactly how I feel with the MS3. I don't look at the fuel mileage (mid). If I did it would ruin my day. I also found the mileage difference between letting it rip and driving like a granny is minimal. I just let it rip and enjoy myself.

Agreed. I can't speak for the skyactiv but whether I not I drive my speed like an old lady or race it through town there is at most a two mile per gallon gain. Not worth it.

I don't let information dictate my mood. Just like looking at the NYSE ticker doesn't mean I won't retire on some days, then trip computer doesn't ruin my day. I love the info, even if most Mazda info is mostly incorrect. Info rules the world, just ask or look up VIVeK ranadive, my hero

I've noticed with my sky that if you let it rip, it will bring the MPG down pretty good. I have to make a decision to blow through some gas or not lol, but you don't have to drive like a grandma to get great gas mileage on top of that

something must be wrong with mine then, mine gets 7-9 mpg when i rip it up and 28-30 old lady short shifting

Same.here ..with 3500-4000 rpm.off boost shift normal driving, my ms3 has never seen less than 27 mpg

Oh I wasnt aware some 3s didnt come with that little screen. I take mine for granted I guess haha. Its cool to have but doing mileage the old fashioned way is more accurate anyway

I like the screen, i use it to try to regulate throttle to drive more efficiently on the instant economy screen. The average economy screen is usually 1-2mpg off, it's inconsistant if it's high or low though.

I wonder what models didn't have that screen? I got the most base model i Touring A/T hatch I could, save for the CWP paint option, and mine has it.

I think the iSV didn't, i had a rental and it didn't have it. It also had a red screen instead of the blue one for the radio, and it was placed kinda between where the blue screen and the mileage screen are instead of all the way to the right.

Mine is a 2012 Skyactiv GS package and I have none. Instead they made my display for the CD/radio player and temps wider the the ones with the mileage info screen next to it.. In a way, It's a unique car. First Skyactiv Mazda 3's ever made and the dash setup is different than the proceeding years.

Wow, thanks for all the reply guys, I have been away so I have not been keeping track. it probably not needed I just thought it would be cool to have but if it doesn't make too much of difference then I will just save for rims.
