I was wondering if anybody knew how the trip computer on the non-infotainment 3's work? And if wheel size affects it's accuracy? My trip computer average is always around 28-30 mpg per tank. If I'm lucky I get it up to 32-33 mpg with lots of freeway driving. I have a 6MT iTouring hatchback and do my best to drive conservatively. Just recently I've been calculating the exact MPG when I fill up, and my trip computer average is off by 2-3 mpg. If the trip computer reads 28 mpg, my actual mileage is about 30 mpg. But one random tank of gas I got 26 mpg, and my driving style didn't change.

If anybody has any input, or some way to calibrate the trip computer, I'd appreciate any help. Then I've never ever hit 35+ mpg, and dream of hitting 40 mpg someday... is there anything that I can change to improve mileage? I shift when the car tells me, and I don't have a heavy foot. I strive to drive to optimize mpg.

Yes it 100% relies on accuracy of tire setups.
And yes, it has always been off up to 3mpg even as far back as my car in the early gen1s
Sadly just the way it is.

Only way I can say to hugely increase highway MPG is to try not to drive faster than 65mph.
I can pull 38mpg out of my car, and that's all it gets, but that's going between 60-65. Slow, yes, but on some trips it only makes a 5-10 minute difference which isn't a huge deal.

Certainly better than 32mpg while going 75mph.

Of course though, mine isn't a skyactiv.

I agree with xcnuse, your tires/wheel combo will effect the accuracy.

Question, what has the weather been like in your area, and have you been driving with the ac on a lot. The reason I ask is that my mpg were way down for a little while, but it's was in the upper 90's and I was using the ac pretty much at full blast. The weather has finally cooled off in houston and my mpg went up again.

As XCNuse said, it's a lot about your speed and rims/shoe combo. I drive 40 miles to and from school everyday averaging 60-75mph. If I were to drive 75 constantly, my gas mileage would take a dive since the engine has to work harder to maintain the speed. I'd probably get around 300-320 a tank if I were to just do that.

I've tried testing at 65 and the gas mileage does go up to say 360-400 a tank but I usually fill before the gas tank light comes one so I haven't seen the 400 mile unicorn. I know this car can get up to 430-460 a tank but that's driving at a slower 55 and drafting other cars mostly.

It's great since I can last maybe two weeks if I try to push it but on monthly expenses I usually spend about ~120 bucks on fuel if I go out on the weekends which is pretty likely.

I'm not positive if we have access to the trip configuration/calibration since it's set from factory.

Another note, I am driving on bigger rims and stickier summer tires compared to the stock steel 16" with the Yokos.

Say, whats your average mph on the trip and are there hills?

Good points. It's been feeling like summer in San Diego and I have been running a/c at about 25-50%. And I did put gen 1 speed 3 18 inch wheels, and was wondering if that would affect the accuracy of the trip computer.

It's like a game to me to cruise and 65 and try to boost the mpg lol. And to you guys with the 2.0 3, how many miles does your full tank get you? I consistently get like 270 miles then I need to fill up. I thought that was kind of low on a car that should be pushing 40 mpg
