So I took in my 2014 Mazda3 sGT HB for 20k mile maintenance at a different Mazda dealership than I normally do. (oil change, tire rotation, full circle inspection).

They suggested @ 15k mile I should have had the throttle body cleaned and would I like to do it now. I passed and then went to the owner's manual maintenance schedule and see no mention of this activity.

Can anybody shed some light on when is the appropriate time to consider this job? Are there any other critical-type jobs that are not listed in the owner's manual that are key to perform on a set schedule?

I think the dealer is trying to drum up business. Were they offering to do it for free? This is not normal maintenance and if the crankcase breather system is well-designed (I assume Mazda knew what they were doing) and you do not run without an aircleaner, will not be necessary for at least 10 years, if ever. The on-board engine diagnostic system is sophisticated enough that the check engine light will come on if there is any problem with the throttle body.

Thanks for the heads up all. I figured it was just the usual "try to get extra $$ from routine maintenance" gig. What piqued my curiosity was there was no mention of this service in the owner's manual but sounds like the engine diagnostics will be the best option to confirm when out of the ordinary services are needed.

Thanks!

This dealer is just trying to pad his bottom line at your expense...

General rule: If the maintenance action the dealer suggests is NOT called out for in the owner's manual, OR if the maintenance action is not intended to fix a problem you reported to them (e.g., car runs poorly, so they suggest doing X, Y or Z to fix it), then the "suggested" maintenance is not necessary.

Yea, unless they are asking to refill your flux capacitor fluid they are pretty much drumming up pure margin for themselves.
I use a Mr. Fusion for that myself

Old Mazda 3 2006 (10+years) treatment

Hi,
In general, What treatments should i do to a mazda 3 10+ ?

I have 10+ mazda that works fine, no special issues, no warning lights, etc.
Even so, some unsmooth accleration and engine sounds makes me search for simple "do it by yourself" solution , with instructions. (If there is a Mazda cite for this , even better).
I assume that accelaration related somehow to Throttle Body so this is my main search. How to cleaning it ,what Throttle body spray, and watch some short videos with explanation.

Is cleaning throttle body is what i nead to look for?
Is it safe? (cleaning can cause my car stop working, buy a new throtle body whitch is expensive)

Thanks in advances, :smile2:
any help will be grate !

Unless you are sure that you complete ignition system is in perfect shape, I would start with fresh spark plugs and if your engine is not coil-on-plug; new ignition wires.
