I'm still confused about something regarding the trip meter A and B and how it relates to fuel economy screen. Hopefully, you guys can clear a few questions for me :)

The Infotainment fuel economy monitor screen is split into 3 sections:

The third section represents the exact same value as the "current fuel economy" in the dashboard's trip computer, correct? The second section, which are the "start" and "end" points for each of the 6 travels? When does it start count the average and when does it stop?

As for the current average in the fuel economy history, it represents the "average fuel economy" in the dashboard's trip computer, yes? But I'm confused about that value on my dashboard... Say I leave the car in the garage for the night, when I start the car in the next day, will that value start at 0 or it will continue from the last value? How does it decide it's a new trip? If it doesn't start at 0, what does it mean then? It's counting the average since when? My last reset? How does this relate to the "current" value in the fuel economy history screen then?

There's also the function which synchronizes the fuel economy monitor with the trip meter A... Now I'm even more confused. What does this mean exactly? Which values will be synced, which won't? What happens if I have this option enabled but I'm displaying trip B or the odometer? What will all the trip computer values mean? Will they be different across trips because I have the sync to trip A option enabled? I tried this once and it didn't seem like it... If not, what exactly is this sync for?

As you can see I'm really confused by all of this. And I just want to understand exactly what all these values mean. Please, explain like I'm five...

Section two is reset when you manually reset the fuel economy meter on the infotainment screen. If you don't reset it then it will continue to tabulate your average until you do. I only have two bars showing on my fuel economy screen because I've only reset once since getting my car.

Trip A and the fuel economy monitor have nothing to do with one another unless you link them. I have never explored this option so maybe someone else on here can tell you how that works.

The current trip fuel economy is automatically reset each time the start the car so that number is representative of the fuel economy from ignition on to ignition off.

The third section is showing what the average fuel economy is for your current trip and only your current trip, like @Rgratia said, and not the current fuel economy that's showing on the dashboard trip computer (that one calculates every ~2 seconds). On the dashboard trip computer, average fuel economy is showing the value from whenever it got reset until now (more on that on next paragraph).

The second section was a bit confusing to me at first also, but what it shows is average fuel economy from your past 5 resets. If you checked the option to link it with Trip A in the settings of the application, it will show your last 5 resets of Trip A. Otherwise, it will only show history whenever you press reset in the application itself. When you link it to Trip A, it will also reset what it shows on the trip computer you see on the dashboard. If you reset Trip B, it will not reset and show you any history on the second section because it is only linked to Trip A. You do not have an option to link it to Trip B.

Since it didn't seem like you said anything about the first section, I will assume that you understand that part, but I'll say it here also, just in case for any other members: it will show whatever average MPG you had for the current trip in increments every minute for the first 10 minutes, then every 10 minutes after that.

Tip: You can actually reset trip computer values by holding down "info" on your steering wheel. Just have to press it in the middle between the up and down.

I hope this clears it up! I've been using the Trip A reset function ever since I found it. It's close to my Fuelly stats, but still overcompensates by 1-2 mpg.

Thank you both, I'm now more clear about many of the display values.

But I'm still confused about the link option... Say I have the option enabled. The name says that fuel economy will be linked to Trip A. Fine, I assume that the second screen will display my latest 6 resets on Trip A but NOT on Trip B.

Is that it? Does it mean I can have two different average fuel economy values on the dashboard, one for Trip A and another for Trip B? That was my first assumption but it doesn't seem like it... The same with the second screen in the fuel economy screen.

It seems both these values (the dashboard average and the second screen in the fuel economy) will always display the value linked to Trip A and never show anything else. If that's true, how does that differ from having the link option disabled? I don't get it...

If you link to Trip A - the Avg MPG that shows on the dash will be reset each time to reset Trip A. The Avg MPG shown on the dash and the "Current Avg History" shown in the right most bar in the infotainment will be linked.

The "Avg MPG - this drive" show in the far right number in the infotainment is the average since you last started the car.

Link to Trip A if you prefer to monitor MPG per tank. If you care only for long term or lifetime MPG don't link it.

By your description, linking and not linking still looks the same to me.

I mean, the needle on the dash switches between odometer, trip A and trip B. However, for each of these 3 modes, the Average MPG on the dash is still a one single value, no matter if you are looking at the odometer, trip A or trip B, it's always the same single value. And I can reset this single value in each of the 3 modes.

How is it linking to trip A if it's just one value? What difference does it make to linking or not linking?

I must be missing something obvious here because I can't still see any difference between linking to trip A not linking.

It just depends on whether you want long term or short term MPG on the screen. One is linked to trip A and the other is just the overall average since the car rolled off the assembly line. If you have not reset trip a, the numbers will be the same. At some point, trip a and trip b both roll back to zero though.

This also has nothing to do with the MPG reading in the gauge cluster. The cluster MPG is just the average since you last held the info button to reset it.

This way you can track the MPG life time, since last reset, since last fill up and for each time you start the engine. Makes it great, if you track or graph your MPGs in a spreadsheet or database.

The way I see it, the linking option is simply a shortcut to reset the average MPG automatically when you reset trip A odometer (on the needle). Allowing you to measure average MPG and odometer per trip.

It simply provides means to skip one manual step. And that step is resetting the average MPG when you also reset trip A odometer in case you want both of them to be linked to the same "trip", of course.

That's it, it doesn't seem to do anything else.

Tere's no way you'll know the average MPG since you bought the car from the dealer. There's only an history of 6 values available and it's the average since the last reset, you don't seem to have access to an "lifetime" average MPG. Unless you keep all those values in a spreadsheet or something, just like you said.

I've got Trip A and mileage linked... I reset trip A when I fill up so I get distance and mileage per tank and I track overall in Android ACar app.

I like that it shows each trip mileage... would be easy and nice for them to show time, distance and mileage each trip but not in the system.

You pretty much have it down now. There's not really a way to track lifetime MPG without a spreadsheet or another tracker, like Fuelly.

The system is pretty simple and doesn't give much data, but it's enough for most people who wants the feature.
