2 reasons -

1 - the receiver is too low and will hit the ground occasionally

2 - my bike rack is 2" and a 1 1/4 to 2 " adapter is lame

3 - Just looks better

4 - Cos I can weld

When its done and you see the bike rack on you will understand - Anyways, I thought its a cool modification I thought Id share

Great idea! I'd rather have the 2" receiver too, not that I would tow anything, but I'm with you on the bike rack. I definitely would like a set up like what you are doing, but I can't weld worth crap. Good work so far, keep us updated!

I notched then welded on a 2" receiver, you can see where I cut off the 1 1/4 receiver.

Then I wire brushed and painted the hitch.

Then I had to notch out some of the bumper sheet metal, then prime and paint.

2" hitch and my Dog

Hope you all liked it, next project, trans cooler - Peace

Awesome job! Is that legal here to have the rear plate flipped up?

That is pretty awesome! Great final result, much better than always having the rear hitch hole showing under the bumper.

Thanks for the comments, I've learned a lot from this forum and enjoy working on cars.

I doubt its "legal" but the cop would have to be a real dick to give me a ticket. If I do get pulled over think Id get a warning 1st but who knows. As far a violations go I don't think it would qualify as anything more then a fix-it ticket.

The kids, wife and I are very excited to go on some riding adventures. Aside from trail riding and down hill riding, the resort town of Kona is 1.25 hours away and is fun to ride from beach to beach.

We have 2 different bike racks 1 hold 4 any kind bikes, the other 2 mountain bikes secure. Im also welding together a rack for our Ruckus. We have a Toyota Tundra V-8 great truck but 14 mpg gets old so we try only use it for work, hauling and around town.

Keep on Cruzin
