Here's me yet again with another (possibly) stupid question. So, just the other day I started the car and immediately turned it off because I had forgotten something in my house. I know that some oil film usually remains on the engine bearings after the engine is shut off but I can't help feeling anxious about causing wear and tear in that brief moment, or during the next engine start. Is it possible that there was no oil during the subsequent engine start and that the bearings got worn? We're talking about a brand new Mazda3 (2.0 petrol) so I hope you can understand my fear.

Rotary engines were the ones you have to worry about turning on and immediately off, due to flooding. Now if you kept doing it every day for a year yeah that wouldn’t be good, but every once and a while it isn’t a problem. I do that sometimes when I park, and am too close to the side door. Turn off, turn back on, move it a foot forward, idle for a few minutes for archaic means learned from old cars, and all good 🤷🏻‍♂️
