Today we got a buttload of snow and I was backing my Mazda out of my driveway and it got stuck in the snow. I frantically put the car in Park and put the E-brake up and went to dig out my car. Then I kept trying to accelerate but the car wouldn't budge. Amidst the confusion, I started getting scared that my car was broken because my neighbor told me that my back wheels weren't spinning, I thought I had broken my car! But when he said that, I realized that I had my E-brake up the whole time...

Anyways, my question is: I didn't damage the car too much, did I? I only tried accelerating with the E-Brake for a minute or two. The car and brakes still feel fine. Any thoughts?

It's probably fine, it's not like you were doing 80 down the highway with your e-brake on. No traction under the front wheels in snow... not enough to pull the car along with the brakes on.

Why would your back wheels be spinning anyways if you're stuck in the snow? It's front wheel drive.

i dont think you hurt anything

i did the exact same thing in my brothers car years ago - hes older than me, his first car out of school was a brand new RSX-S

anyway once while visiting, i had to move it for some reason, totally forgot about the E-brake - and just dragged the back wheels through the snow for like 30 feet before i realized what was going on

i just parked it, and gave him the keys back - nothing was ever wrong as far as i knew

Yeah I know it's front wheel drive but I was more concerned that the back wheels weren't spinning even after I cleared the snow.

nah your car is fine! My brother did that exept he drove completely out of the driveway and onto the street. I wish I would have video taped it. I was just astonished that he couldn't figure out why his car front was going forward and his rear was tail whipping the entire time... kids a pure genius :tongue:

You're supposed to turn really hard while you're gassing. Try it next time.

Chances are that the brake was still gripping the rotor and slipping on the snow/ice. I wouldn't worry about it.

If I'm not mistaken, the e-brake only holds the rear wheels...so you're good.

your car is fine. i used to power slide my old civic when it snowed by yanking the e-brake. it's also how fwd guys do burn-outs. i wouldn't worry about it.
