So yesterday I decided to go for a ride and, without thinking, gave my car full throttle while overtaking just 8 minutes (5 miles) down the road, with ambient temperature being around 50°F. What worries me is that oil wasn't fully up to temperature and that I might have pushed the engine too soon. So, any idea as to how long it takes for Skyactiv oil to warm up sufficiently to floor it?

For normal operation.. a couple minutes is plenty of time to properly lubricate things.

If you plan on pushing the engine.. 10-15 minutes of driving should do it.. outside temperature plays a factor too.

I def try to baby it until the normal operating temps, just out of previous habit. Buuuuuut sometimes not far from the house you have to speed up hard to get around some slow moron before you’re stuck doing 20 miles below on a two lane road with little opportunities to pass. But usually don’t let the engine go past 2500-3000 rpm’s until the temp gauge is mid level

In winter obviously it takes longer so it depends on what is the engine temperature. For example, I left my car outside for a couple of days before Christmas when the temperature was down to 9 degrees Fahrenheit. I started the car and it idled at higher rpm for much longer than usual but the engine was sounding awful for at least 3 minutes. I am suspecting that the oil was cold and very viscous not reaching well the valves. It was scary but soon it was normal again and never happened again since then. Temperatures are higher lately though.

I have a G 2.0 as well. Not sure if the coolant temp can be used as a guidance about the oil temp, but in cold days if you use the HVAC to warm up the cabin, while the coolant temps are not up there yet, it takes even more time to do so.
