I'm looking for a new car to use as a weekend commuter to get out of the city ... I don't have a big budget ($2-3K)... I was looking at a 2007 Mazda 3, which seems perfect, except it has 208K on it.

Title is clean, has only had 2 owners - based on the research and reading I've done, it seems the engine could have another 50K miles on it, which would give it a few more years. Would it be nuts to consider? If not, anything I should have the mechanic check specifically when he checks it out?

I see nobody has responded. I have to tell you, we all probably work hard for our money and need to save where we can, but I don't think I would ever buy a car with that many miles on it.

If you really are using it as a commuter, it is going to rack up the miles pretty quick. There are probably cheaper cars out there with less mileage for the same range. If you were the owner it would be one thing to keep driving, but to buy that car and then turn around and have anything major go wrong, you lost the odds.
