ive had the car for less than a week (4 days) and my windshield is already chipped and front end all specked up.

i was driving on i280 around the sf bay area and i guess a gravel truck hit an expansion joint and dropped some gravel all over the road.

and i was in the process of getting quotes to get a clear bra this coming weekend. :sad 1:
instead now i got to find someone to fill the glass chip so i dont get cracks.

any recommendations for windshield repair in the san francisco bay area?

If you have full coverage wont your insurance company cover the chip repair?
I got rearended by a Dodge Neon (that was rearended by a Semi) 6 Days after I took delivery of mine!!!!!!! My car was out for 3 WEEKS while the parts became available.!!

I watched the whole thing unfold in my rearview mirror. To be honest I was surprised (pleasantly) by how soft the impact was. But I seriously had to talk my self out of pulling the old tard out of the semi and beating him. Eventually I was able to express my discontent without physical violence. But he didn't step out of his truck until the police arrived!
What hurt the most was being stuck in a Versa for two weeks. Then a 2013 Mz3 for another week while they tried to match the paint. Snowflake Pearl. From what they told me they had to fly a Corporate paint specialist out to do it. They gave up after the fourth try. But the trucking company rightfully footed the bill. AND Im getting a nice check for the Diminished Value claim I filed.

Sucks. I already got nailed with a rack in mine. Chip repaired, but noticeable.

I saw something similar happen to another car a few years ago. I was behind a landscape truck towing a trailer. I had some jerk who was riding my ass even though I couldn't go any faster due to the slow truck in front of me. I finally had an opportunity to switch lanes, just as I crossed completely into the other lane the truck hit an expansion joint at the beginning of a bridge and dropped a bunch of gravel on the freeway. Sounded like a shotgun when all the gravel hit the guy's car who had been tailgating me. I felt a little bad for him even though he was being a jerk to me.

tomhdez - Ouch, sorry to hear about that. That happened to with our 07 Civic, except it was a woman in a Range Rover, she hit the Camry behind me which ended up rearending me. 3 car pile up. Dude behind me was showing signs of neck trauma/whiplash...not sure if true or faking it lol. Our Civic was in damn near flawless condition before the hit. Had to have the bumper/tailights/trunk replaced. I know how aggravating it can be, good thing you maintained restraint. And the Versa, my cousin got that car as a rental and did not like it as well.

As for matching the paint, im no body shop guru but couldn't they just use the paint code? Or is there still mixing involved? At least some good came out of it, monetary compensation.

Nitsuj - I have 2 repaired in mine, DIY. Ill take a crack or two over a replaced windshield due to the seals...its only original once but if it gets bad enough, I got no choice but to have it replaced.

If you replace the windshield, I think it's best to get the original glass or have dealer do it. I remember watching or reading about how unsafe it is if it's not installed properly. If airbag deploys it can pop the windshield out or something like that. So yeah, definitely try to get the dealer to do it.

About a week after getting my 3, I was driving on the freeway and there was a big truck some good distance away in front. Couldn't tell what it was carrying but for almost two miles all I heard was little rocks hitting the car. I tried driving in different lanes but all the same lol Got a few small chips on my bumper from that day =/

I've had a windshield cracked in my M3 less then a year after buying it.. had to get a full replacement.. hand numerous other chips get filled too in other cars :( Never a fun day hearing that pop then looking for the chip/crack.. I am trying not to drive my car until after I get the clear bra installed this weekend. Unfortunately my city puts down layers of salt rocks no matter if its snowing or not so I am just dreading driving around town. Literally they are the size of skittles all over the streets. I just try to stay as far back from cars as possible.

my current plan is just to fix it first, if a crack appears and spreads, then ill decide to replace.

ive had my bad luck with road debris. within a month of owning my civic, i hub cap flew off a buick and jammed into the front grill breaking the plastic grill pieces.

a golf ball flew into my car once in so cal when i was on a freeway that went pass a course.

yea i could get my insurance to cover. i just dont like glass being replaced. seals are never the same.
No seals for front windows for some time now as they are glued in with ultraviolet light activated sealant. in other words, glued in. Have never had a problem in the past but with all the extra stuff mounted on the front winder would prefer to have dealer installed. (ie like rain sensing wipers and other stuff.

Safelite does a super job with glass. Had a car done I watched them i think it was as good as factory. They use the best. If done right I think it is safe.

Does anyone know how to remove the sensor rear view cover on the front windsheild
