Sorry to see this. They should total it. If those crumple zones are compromised they are insta total.

Yes, thanks. I should've said - nobody hurt. And both front doors were jammed, hard to open, so I'll take that as a sign that crumple zones did indeed crumple.

So to have the 2.5L and a manual tranny the SGT is my only option now. That's why I said SGT, by the way. And it looks like it's cheaper than my S Touring was anyway. So maybe I get money back! (which will, of course, go fully to increased insurance rates)

The other thing that will suck is having to go to the tow yard to remove my rear sway bar. The front strut tower bar is a 2 min. operation. The hood struts are a 5 min. operation. But I'll have to remove the rear coil spring to get the sway bar off. And I'll have to install it again, too, on the replacement car. It wasn't that much fun the first time.

Glad your ok, thats going to be an expensive lesson in following distance.
The collision was at an intersection, where there is a dedicated right turn lane. I *thought* I saw the person in front had gone - turned and moved on. So I was looking left to ensure the way was still clear. The officer said this is, by far, the most common collision they deal with. The airbag deployment was such a shock.
Hopefully the driver you hit gets a new car and isn't stuck with a depreciated vehicle with an accident on it's history....
It was somebody I know, and it was a brand new car - Chevy Traverse. Only bumper and rear hatch slightly dented - I'm assuming since it's so much higher than my 3.
Sorry to see this, hope you get out financially good.
With what speed did you hit him?
We're supposed to have "full replacement cost" insurance. I couldn't talk to anybody at the insurance place on a Sunday. Here's hoping.
I had slowed to turn in a line .Couldn't have been more than 10-15mph. MAYBE 20?

Funny how most rear end collisions destroy the upper front of the car because the impact totally misses the crash structure that's supposed to prevent it.

Glad no one was injured. Sorry for the loss.

Yup see some good crumpling going on there. At first glance does not look to bad but looks extensive. A lot of front end parts to replace. Fender crushed back.

With a rear end, that last minute brake throws the car down and the damage is more extensive since you drive up under the front car basically.

Since you did not see him you probably did not brake much at all. Also being an SUV you are sitting way lower. Bumper all in the grill.

Be interesting to see what insurance says. Keep us posted.

Hope things work out for the better bud.

I just dropped mine back off to get the front door touched up. Looks like a dirty paint booth or something. got specs in my clear coat. For the most part they did a good job. Been good about fixing all the small issues I found.

As the officer said, you're not alone. I did the same thing a few years back but it was exiting a highway. The exit ramp ended at an angle to the local street such that you really had to look over your left shoulder to see oncoming traffic. The traffic had cleared and I swore the car in front had moved on but it hadn't. I was going slow, maybe 5-10 mph but it was enough to have to replace the radiator on my car (along with all the other front end damage).

I am now in the habit of not looking left until the car in front has actually moved on. ;)

Hope things work out well for you.

The last time I got hit was because I unexpectedly stopped at a STOP SIGN and totally fooled the lady behind me, who was looking at the oncoming traffic and saw enough of a gap for her to smoothly merge onto the highway except for that fool ahead of her who actually stopped at that damned, un-needed stop sign.

She found out that some people do unexpected things sometimes.

Ah sucks to see, glad no one was hurt tho. Seeing this brings back those memories of my first accident, being a red car too. This was over 10 years back.

Interestingly my airbags did not deploy and I hit the steering wheel :/

Very sad, good to hear no one was hurt. These SUV's impose a negative externality on other drivers that is an explanation why damage to Mz 3 more severe than it caused to SUV. A few nights back my friend parked his car overnight behind SUV next morning he discovered a huge dent on a hood. He did a little investigation and find out that SUV had a spare tire in the back and when a driver backed up instead of giving "friendly" bump, he/she left unfriendly 2 feet dent.

Looks burgundy in the picture, did you buy this car new or used? If used no one knows if airbags were stolen/deployed and new ones were not properly installed.

You should not have to take if off. When they appraise the car make sure you tell them it has aftermarket parts and as long as you have receipts for them they will give you some money for them. I was not allowed to take any parts off my old tC when it was totalled so they just gave me the money to replace the parts.

Bought the car used, it had a salvaged title on it. Back then it was my first car ever and didn't know what it meant but apparently the car was in a front end accident before too. Maybe you're right it wasn't properly installed or something :/

Most likely what happened, a sketchy shop installed without proper certification. The title was rebuild and bribed inspected facility just went visually over some lights on dashboard.
