Hey folks,

I'm new here but have used lots of the info on here for the past couple of years.

I was wondering if it was too diffucult to replace the REAR DRIVER upper and lower control arms, trailing link, and and lateral link? I've done minor work on my 3 and others but nothing this extensive. The dealership quoted be 650 for parts, 600 for labor, plus tax....im a college student with a decent tool chest. Could i do the replacements on my own? Would it require special tools? Or should I just let the dealership do it and swallow the cost?

I've looked online but most DIY walk throughs are for front control arms or to only replace the bushings...

Any input is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Yup, all you really need is a breaker bar, ratchet, a metric set (19mm should be the largest bolt on the rear) a metric box wrench set for some smaller endlink bolts, and a crescent wrench for holding and free spinning nuts. Then you need one jack to lift the car, jack stands, and another jack to put under the control arm. A crows foot (stake shaped rod with a hook on one end) helps a lot for chasing bolts and lining up the control arms.

Please what symptoms were you experience before you decided to change the trailing link?
Just want to see if your symptoms are similar to mine. I am having some side to side waving at the rear of my car I'm on speeds of say 100km/70 miles and going through and uneven surface

+1 on jack stands, never never never work on and motor vehicle without jack stands, motorcycle lift, solid blocks of wood, etc.. a jack is only to be used in o get the vehicle up or let it back down
Personal experience years ago putting lift shackles on a Chevy Nova for a friend, I had the car on a jack and when I removed the second shackle the car shifted and rolled off the jack and I was under it. It landed on its axle snubbers inches above my face.

I guess I want to be clear, cinder blocks or concrete block should not be used to support your car (that’s what ******** used) as they are for building a structure. And wood blocks in proper stack could support multiples of the little cars stacked on top of each other. It’s overkill but I really wouldn’t want someone to get hurt.
