Replacing Bose amp with aftermarket

I have a 2010 3s with the Bose package and my amp just hit the bucket the other day. The dealer wants over $1k for a replacement, so that's obviously out of the question, so they recommended also going with an aftermarket amp. Does anyone recommend a cost-effective way to replace the amp without having to get all 10 speakers and the head unit replaced? I know wiring is tricky when it comes to their equipment. And also some ideas on what brands/models, since I'm not so familiar with this stuff (probably would get it done at a stereo shop either way). Thanks!

You could replace the Bose amp with a new Bose amp, no? Here's a new one in box for $375, maybe less if the seller accepts a lower offer.

The Bose amp is under the passenger seat with three wire bundles clipped into it -- easy to remove in seconds -- and just a few bolts.

I fiddled with the idea of an aftermarket amplifier in my car, but have no desire to anymore now that I got the factory Bose system sounding perfect.

If you want to go aftermarket I would recommend to go with an Alpine MRV-V500. It is a 5 channel amp and will power your front component speakers, the rear doors, and the subwoofer. The bose speakers are 3 ohm I believe, so it would deliver more than the factory amp with cleaner sound as well. The amp goes for $250~ online and then wiring should cost no more than $110 retail.

If you have any questions shoot me a message, I also have a factory bose amp if you really just want a replacement.

I also planning for adding an amp and replacing the Bose sub. I have a 2012 Mazda 3 s GT. I have already change the HU with a Chinese Double Din (Eonon ga5163f). I found out the HU is decent and sounds better and it works with the Bose system. But now I am thinking of putting some bass.

So, my choice is Alpine MRV-V500 and Kicker 40CWRT102 (10" sub with dual 2 ohm). I m also planning to make a spare tire enclosure for the sub. The HU have ports for Front speakers and Rear speakers. So if I connect my sub and all the speakers direct from the HU to the amp will it gonna work? Please suggest me, am I thinking in the right direction? I am adding a pic of the head unit with all the ports in it.

if you guys want to keep the bose stuff, the amp is very easy to access and replace, just need some basic hand tools, remove your passenger seat (it unbolts and lifts out) then the amp is right under the front part of the seat bolted to the floor pan, find one at a junkyard and swap it, it takes literally all of 30 minutes to do. or go here: zoomzoomnationparts.com and order a new one they are a mazda dealer in Chicago and has the best online oem parts prices I have seen anywhere.

this is the diagram for a 2011: SOUND SYSTEM. INSTRUMENT PANEL.. Fits: 2011 Mazda 3 S Hatchback 2.5L Duratec A/T | CJ Wilson Mazda Online Parts

the amp is number 14 scroll down and you will see they have it for about $550, not bad compared to many local dealers. and maybe the cheapest way to go about fixing it. otherwise you need an LOC interface, an external amp, speakers (unless you can find another amp to drive the low impedance of the factory bose ones, which many aftermarket 4 channel etc amps will not do well) and installation as well as most likely a new radio as many complain of issues using aftermarket amps with bose factory radios, and the interface module for the radio alone is $100 most places, cheapest I have found is $80. if you do decide to rip the bose out you have to tap the right channels for sound to get the full range. JBL,JL, Alpine make some of the better amps and speakers, hertz is good, so is infinity and Rockford fosgate, again though you can easily swap your factory bose amp for $550+shipping and 30-40 minutes of your time to remove the passenger seat and swap the amp.

People who say the bose system has no bass don't know how to set up an eq and volume level, I can get my mirrors rattling with the stock bose system and people can hear me down the block, not shabby for a 265watt system, and it sounds clean with no distortion as well, I set my volume to 60 (of 63 max) eq on radio is at 0 bass and +1 treble and I have a Samsung phone playing off google play music with just their basic rock eq turned on and it sounds great. this is also coming from a guy who built a competition sound system in his pathfinder 3x had 2 batteries a beefed up alternator and 6 subs for the first configuration running 6000 watts just to the subs not to mention the 1500 watts running to the 8 door speakers and I had several other setups in this suv, had a 2000w system in my 08 3 alpine type r 12" jbl 4 channel Rockford door speakers and a kenwood deck, so I know how to build and tune them, all self installed and self tuned, my pathfinder won several competitions locally

Also having the same issue with my amplifier. The speakers started to sound like a helicopter whenever the radio was turned on. There are plenty of videos available online of the issue. After a quick diagnostic from my mechanic, I was able to remove the amplifier, without removing the seat, following the directions here. I've sent of the information to Bose Automotive via email and I'm waiting to here back. Thanks for all the information.

Hopefully resolved

Last week the amp in my 2010 Mazda 3 went nuts. Out of no-where this horrible sound (helicopter as previously described) was nearly unbearable. After pulling the 30-amp fuse, I could use the car once again.

After reviewing this site, some YouTube videos and the like, I placed a call to Bose Automotive (800-231-2673)... pressed option "1" (already contacted my automotive dealer)... then option "2" (speaker or amplifier).

I too had to leave a message... I described the problem... how I got it to stop (by pulling the 30-amp fuse), the year of the car and my contact information. It was a Friday so my expectation was low on receiving a returned call. To my surprise, the following Monday, I received a call from a Massachusetts number (nearly didn't answer it b/c I thought it was a sales call). The support representative was super nice and directed me to their website.

I submitted the contact form (automotive[dot]bose[dot]com/contact-us) describing the problem as directed. Per the support representative, that is the first step. The next step, I should receive an email from them, where I have to take pictures of the amp and send them back, then they will send me a replacement amp.

So... in the coming days I hope this issue is resolved.

Bose Amplifier

Thank you all for your input on going directly to Bose for a replacement amplifier. I have a 2010 Mazda 3 sport and my amplifier was also making unbearably loud noises while car was off or on! I went to dealership and they wanted to charge me $1600 to replace it! Yikes. I am having them disconnect it and will contact Bose directly. Thanks again!!

I too had a big problem with the faulty amplifier, but in my case, it short-circuited the entire car. Car wouldn't start, Key FOB didn't work. I did contact BOSE automotive, they did call me back and said to wait for a response to my email. They also mentioned that it will take 2-3 weeks to receive my replacement.

Did any of you have any luck with Bose? Submitting the form doesn't get a response and when I call, they can't find the submission. Eventually a rep sent me an email to reply to, but they don't respond to that either.

I wanted to add something here as well. About 6+ months ago we had an issue with the Bose amp in our 2011 Mazda3 Sport Hatchback. It was clipping really bad, hissing, popping, etc. We took the car to Mazda and they assessed the amp had gone defective and they wanted us to pay some INSANE amount to replace it (something like $1500+ dollars as a special order from Canada). We instead opted to just disconnect the Amp and not use the stereo in the car. I came across this website a month ago and found others reached out to Bose about the Amp and they offered to replace it at no charge. I emailed Bose Automotive, they asked for some pictures and model/serial info, as well as some car info. I sent everything over today and in LESS than 2 hours they replied back advising they would replace the amp for a new one, free of charge. Their service was incredible, and I am extremely impressed. This really solidifies us continuing to use their products in our home as well as continue to purchase their products in future vehicles. Very impressed with their quality of service. Thanks Bose <3!

My car's amp started having the same issues as described previously and I reached out to Bose if they would offer a replacement amp. They replied saying that they've stopped making that part so have seized the good faith replacement program.
I ended up getting my amp repaired by Paulison Corp in NJ. I shipped it on Friday and got it back next weekend. Installed it today and it is working fine again.

Contacted the Bose team and this is their response:

Hello Cindy,
I'm sorry that we cannot assist you further with this. The process previously was different which is why some Mazda forum members may have previously had success in contacting Bose. The Mazda dealer should have a Bose contact that can help facilitate your request further and obtain the parts they cannot access.

Kind Regards,
Josh

They don't have an automotive department anymore what a disappointment!
