I have a 2012 Mazda 3 with bose, and the full technology package.
I have already removed all of the bose components except for the factory head unit. I run aftermarket speakers/sub/amp. Been working fine for years. I think I want to eliminate the OEM radio and go with an aftermarket touch-screen style. Something android with the ability to use google maps.
I will also not need the OEM navigation that the car currently has. I also hate bluetooth (or anything that pairs my phone with a car). I want to get rid of all of that myself. Has anyone done this? Basically I'm looking to get rid of the factory garbage in place of going with aftermarket. I thought it would be easier to just downgrade the steering wheel buttons by getting those from a model on a base model car.
I was thinking of doing fiberglass work on the dash to eliminate the "info" screen and replace it with a gauge-pod of sorts. I will still obviously need the second display that shows the hvac settings.
what are more people doing that have the factory NAV, but replace the original radio with an aftermarket android style that has NAV.
I am very electrically and mechanically inclined- so nothing is too much or 'over my head'.
