What's up guys, does anyone have a how to or give me some insight on how to remove the exterior window trim? Want to remove it to wrap it/dip it but don't want to spend the money on the lower trim parts or dip it while on the car. So I'd like some help please.

Just tape it off and spray it with plasti-dip. Its quicker and easier with no risk of breaking things.

I plasti dipped mines a couple of years ago and it only lasted 6 months before some parts came off. Decided to bite the bullet and ordered the lower trim part and it’s honestly way better then spending time and effort reapplying plasti dip every 6 months or so.

Took me about an hour for each side using 2" frog tape and some newspaper. Many light applications for even coverage, build up a good layer for durability. Let it sit for a couple hours in the sun before removing the tape.
Prep is important if you want it to last. Spray dip won't stick if the surface has dust, oil etc on it. Clean it thoroughly right before you spray it. I did mine in the middle of last summer. Its lasted through the winter with no problems and isn't showing any signs of coming off except for one small spot on the front right where a chunk of ice hit it. This filled right in like it wasn't there with a bit of touch-up.

Lol, whenever I plastidip things and let it dry, it always tries to pull up the edges where the tape meets.. I usually end up having to pull the paint when the dip is wet IOT get clean lines.. I learned that the hard way with my grill trim; I still need to strip the dip and respray lol.

I bought the black version from mazda. Removal instructions are in the service manual.
I destroyed my chrome ones while taking them off.

They are held on by fragile clips which I used a removal tool to take off. Be very careful though because a few broken clips are now stuck inside my door and they rattle slightly lol.
Take it to a mechanic to do it if you’re scared of breaking fragile clips.

Rip them off. My reminisce does not rattle. Lol

I tried 2X to dip them and failed miserably each time. So many tiny tape pieces and newspaper rips needed to cover the curving. Both times I spent hours to have the stuff come right off with the tape. Finally bit the bullet and had the dealer install the dark trim. I was tired of spending any more time with it.

On a side note, I have the chrome trim available for sale, cheap! Hahahaha

If it was coming off with the tape something was wrong, either the dip was bad or the surface not cleaned right. Did you let it cure for a while, a couple hours at least?

Just do it yourself they are not worth anything. The pieces that broke off mine don’t rattle

Refer to the Mazda manual on how to do it. If you don’t care about the chrome pieces then try to remove them as carefully as possible and if they break then they break , no loss there, but if you are planning to keep the chrome pieces then you gotta be super careful and PATIENT , if you are not sure of your skills just call your dealership and check how much they charge (max. 30 minutes of work).

From my experience I didn’t want to do it myself so I went to the dealership and they did it for free (in return I gave them th chrome piece) , win win situation > .

Replacing window trim

Hello all,
Ordered a set of black window trim to replace the chrome ones, how do you get them out is it best to have the windows down do you just pull up on them. I found a link in the forum. I copied the pages from the manual.
