You can hammer on it all day, its not going to come off until that lower shock bolt is removed.

Do yourself a favor- when you put it back in, use a bit of never-seize.
Well duh. My guess is he doesn't have air tools so it's not as easy to get off, which is why he made this thread.

I tried an 8mm with air tools and it still would not come off. Wouldn't nudge one bit.
Heat it up. Get it hot enough and it will come out easily.
What sort of air tool? I use an impact hammer, 750 foot pounds. No problems. Make sure your air wrench is working, is oiled and is capable of producing the power needed to extract otherwise stuck fasteners.
