Hi,

I just bought a used 2004 Mazda3 hatchback and it had a used transmission installed in December. They guy didn't drive it very much, he rotated out of the state every 2 weeks and would leave it in storage.

Anyway there was a lot of fluid on the ground yesterday morning, maybe 1/2 quart or so. It is red but doesn't really smell like transmission fluid. All other fluids are at max level(oil, brake, steering, coolant which is green.)

He was thinking he overfilled it and it came out a vent hose since it was 30-40 degrees then and now it is close to 80 degrees here.

I do not see a vent hose or where it may have came out of and was wondering if that was a plausible cause.
Thanks

i ended up taking about a quart out of it until it read right on the dip stick. hopefully thats all that happened.

It did throw fluid around quite a bit so i am guessing i can spray some break cleaner to get it off the engine? kinda worried it might catch fire
