Oil pan removal on a 2011 MZ 3 2.5 liter. I have downloaded an e manual and the instructions speak of removing coils and spark plugs, why? I am only removing an oil pan to re-thread the drain bolt that someone previously over tightened. (I do not want shavings to remain in pan) I have worked on many older cars that basically you only have bolts holding the pan on. What all actually must be removed and what if anything in these instructions is not necessary?

Well I got back under the car and loosened all of the bolts and with a tiny bit of nudging the pan came right off! So I Re-threaded the drain plug, put a new plug in an torqued correctly. Ant it went back together fabulously! Only problem now is that I put 5.5 quarts of 0w-20 oil in and it is just barely touching the bottom of the dip stick! I guess with a pan removal it actually takes 6.3qts instead of 5.3qts!

Thank-you for posting even though no one responded to you; i am having similar problems with Mazda 3 forums and hope this one will be different. I am researching what it takes to replace a 2010 Mazda 3 2.0 Liter oil pan. From the limited info i have seen it looks simple, but the dealership told my daughter (out of state) it would be $1,350 plus tax, which i can not understand.

In any event, as i have more questions on repairing her car, i hope this forum will prove active.

Once again, thank-you for responding to your post, you provided good information-
