OEM Miata ND Leather Shift Knob?

Has anyone thought to try the Miata ND OEM leather shift knob on our Mazda 3's? I cannot for the life of me find one brand new for sale anywhere.

Should be interchangeable. Mazda uses the same 10x1.25 threads on just about everything.
That is baseball stitching on those knobs.

Great to hear @Midnightsky228 my 2017 is about to go in for oil change #1 and I will be pricing out the miata knob when I am at the dealer if not before I go.
Looking around I have seen the going rate seems to be about $125 for a NIB MX5 knob as pictured. :surprise:
Spacing it up should not be a problem. One option is pull the center console and put a spacer under the boot. Or, you can put a 3/8" ID chrome spacer on the lever under the knob. Ace Hardware has these in several lengths and sizes, in chrome and black chrome. The spacers are fairly large and heavy and will add a bit more weight to the knob.

This is how I spaced in the knob on my Miata using a chrome filler-

The boot is held up against the spacer with a spring and a couple washers, and the 2" spacer weighs somewhere near a pound.

While I estimate that is about twice the number/height than I need to "reproduce" factory's height (based on scaling off @Midnightsky228 's comparative picture, having extras allows to me see if I can raise the top of the shift knob's height perhaps up to 5/16 to 3/8" -- if that is something I might wish to do.

This is a fun thread!

I prefer a taller shifter. The one in my car above is +4" over stock height and angled towards the steering wheel. The shifter has a raised fulcrum to reduce the throw considerably. Its only a bit less than 4" from rim to knob so making fast gear changes is easy even when driving hard (two hands on the wheel). Not to mention the ergonomic angling is perfect.

Pics? Or are you referring to old woody in your Miata that you posted on page 2?
I was referring to the picture of the MX5 shifter above.
I'm looking into ordering a similar 4" angled extender for my 3 though.
I think that is just as odd that it isn't just sold as one piece. As far as I know they are all 6 speeds so why sell the two pieces?

EDIT: I also don't see any different caps for sale with different patters (i.e. 5 speed)
Not odd at all. The knob is probably sourced from a vendor that supplies parts for more than one make of car. Its also possible that the button is not manufactured by the same company that makes the knob. So at the warehouse you have a parts bin for the knob, a parts bin for the button, and two different part numbers. The knobs are spare parts so they aren't going to pay somebody to assemble them for you.
Okay, I have a interim solution (using the "advanced post" option below) until someone smarter than me can teach me/us about Imgur. But of course every picture ever posted on any forum using photobucketr is at least temporarily lost until I double back and re-post that picture -- and of course try of everyone on this and other forums.
Tinypic is better. You can make albums etc just like photobucket. I just opened an account there.

@arathol @Road Trip

yeahhhh baby, red necked that shit and it worked yaaaaaaaaaaa. Got my shift knob today, electrical tape and pulled the boot over the tape, sits perfectly flush yeeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. lol ok im done. So happy it worked out and didn't have to remove any trim. One thing I noticed right away is the shift knob is totally disproportionate lol its too small for the console. Next time you guys get in your car take a hard look at it and you'll see what I mean, its hilarious. All the same, I still love it lol.
Maybe you should put a Possum Lodge sticker on your window.
Quando omni flunkus moritati ..:laughing019:

Mine isn't disproportionate at all. Not really.:smile2:
