Hi Guys,

I'm 2 days new to the Mazda 3 and loving it.
2nd hand with 100,000kms.
Nice little car with enough power for me.

In the ad I could see the steering wheel with cruise control and voice command (didn't know what it even was yet) but seeing that...it ticking a lot of boxes for me.
I drive a lot and really want cruise control and bluetooth, but now i'm not sure it's even there.

So the issues are :

1) The cruise control 'CRUISE ON' button does nothing.
After reading a few threads, I've replaced the rear brake bulbs (1 was faulty) but no change.
No light on the dash to say it's on.
I thought maybe a bulb was out on the dash and tried setting a speed anyway, nothing.

2) The Voice Command button does nothing.
No beep, no response
Same for the pickup call which I think is supposed to beep, but with no phone connected yet i wasn't too concerned about that.

3) BT SETUP just isn't an option at all when scrolling through the stereo options.
Hmmmmm.

With so many features not working, i'm hoping it's all pointing to something that's obvious to you guys.
"You need to rub your tummy, pat your head 3 times with the battery disconnected, and foot on the brake pedal"....if only :(
I've checked the book for fuses but nothing really stands out as a fuse that's even related to a single one of these things.

Bah, driving me crazy

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Birnie

So there is a good possibility that your steering wheel is not the original one. The lack of Bluetooth in the stereo options is a good indication of this.

If you were to remove the glove box you should be able to find the Bluetooth module. Adding the factory Bluetooth is possible but very difficult.

Cruise control can be activated by your local dealership for a small fee.

Thanks for that.
I was starting to think that might be the case, but why did they bother?
Hmmmm
Still looks second hand.

So if my car was delivered without Cruise Control, and I now have the controls on the wheel, can the dealership just activate the system?
That would be fantastic !

Dam the head unit is only a single disc as well.
Why do they have disc change buttons on a single disc?
NOW I know there's an identical stereo but there's a 'disc changer' icon on the WMA button (i think)
Are you able just to swap these out if I pick one up second hand?

...and would I be assuming if I got a bluetooth module, it would plug directly into this stereo?

Cheers guys :)

I just read your post on adding the bluetooth.
My reading light already has a hole in it...which I would assume is a microphone hole.
Hopefully that's already there which would life easier

To answer your questions

The buttons may have been added along with the center display to get 2 screens instead of 1 along with the stereo controls (I did this on my car except with the factory NAV system) and the original owner was OK with the other buttons not working.

Cruise Control can be activated at the dealership (it cost me $100.00 Canadian when I did mine)

The head unit has always annoyed me as well for having buttons that are completely useless (Disk change and SAT RADIO). Your assumption is correct on the disc change icon.

The Bluetooth does not plug in directly nor is the wiring in your car if you didn't originally have it. (I added Bluetooth to my car and it was quite a bit of work.)

The hole is for a blue ambient LED light that comes on when you turn on your side markers and headlights.

Found the reading light unit with the sun glass holder in a scrap yard and discovered this LED light.

The Bluetooth microphone is a separate rectangular unit in front of the reading lights.

Just called Mazda, spare parts.
they checked the VIN.
Didn't come with Cruise Control :(

They recommended go for an aftermarket kit, not even bother with Mazda original.
If that's done, can the after market system be hooked into the original buttons ?
It would be nice to keep the original look.

I have no clue,

My car didn't come with cruise control. I added the buttons and brought it to my dealership to have them activate cruise control through the cars BCM (Body Control Module) or ECU (Engine Control Unit) I had the tech change a few other things while he was hooked up to the BCM (Smart turn for blinkers).

The only other part I was aware you may need was a brake switch with 4 pins, yours may only have 2.

I would suggest you talk to your service adviser at your local Mazda dealership. I know in some parts of the US the service guys had no clue on this subject. When I asked the service guy at my local Mazda dealership he simply smiled and said no problem, like they did this all the time.

Thanks so much for your help.

OK then, I wont give up on that one, just need to get the right guy to talk too.
I'll try a few other dealerships.
There's some bigger ones near where I work.

As far as bluetooth goes...and considering both speakers, front and rear on my right are crackling and low volume, I'll just replace my headunit with one of those Android touchscreen things, an Eonon.. to get the blueooth, and in the hope a new unit fixes the bad signal.....unless there's better brands but that seems to be the only one coming up on ebay at the moment.

Thanks again Mr M_blind, you're a champ :D
