So, I had a 2015 Nissan Versa that I hated. The cloth got dirty easily and was hard to keep clean. I also put 35k miles on it in 10 months. Not driving as much now, so seeing how it was either stick with the car I hate forever or take the $6k loss on the loan, I decided to lease a 2016 Mazda 3 Touring in red.

There is some backstory though, I actually upgraded first to a Nissan Sentra, all black, same price as the Mazda but not all the features and technology. Little did I know that I was at a dealership who the Feds just raided and are suing for screwing people (9 dealerships in Los Angeles indicted). Basically, they gave me an amazing deal, even with the negative equity, amazing rate and an amazing payment.... I just needed to do $1,500 down. I did $500 down and said I'd give the other $1k in 30 days when I got back from my vacation. The night before I'm about to go on my vacation, remember, I've had the car for about 3 weeks now, put 700 miles on it and had paperwork signed and all. They call me to "cancel the offer" saying the bank wouldn't accept the loan terms. Basically, they sold me a loan they knew would never be approved. Too good to be true. I have pretty good credit, just not excellent. It was like a 1.9% APR. Anyways, they tried to get me to pay ANOTHER $500 (so $2k down total) and told me my payments would go up to $593 a month. I told them they were insane. Then they wanted to charge me for wear and tear on the vehicle. I told them they could try, but I paid with American Express and once I show them the documents that you made a loan in bad faith, I'm pretty sure they'll give me my money back... AMEX is good with that.

They told me to hold on, they are going to get the owner involved to make some calls and pull some strings. They not only made me wait for 4 hours and wouldn't give me my original car back, but they literally ran my credit through 35 different lenders. They finally came back, with a big smile on their face, "we did it. we got you your deal". I'm like thank God, I thought I'd have to give up my Sentra. I was really starting to like it and was hours from going on my vacation. Their deal? Another $500 down (so back up to $2,000) and $541 a month (like $50 less than before). My original payment was supposed to be $398.xx. I told them to shove it and give my money back and my keys now.... The "manager" through the file up in the air so the papers flew around the room saying, "well if he doesn't give a f***, I don't give a f***", mind you this is all in front of my wife and 3 year old who have been patiently waiting for 4 hours now. The sales rep came back gave me my refund and then finally gave me my keys back.... apparently its a scam they do, hence the FTC investigation and indictments.

So I ended up buying a Mazda 3 Touring (2016)... a little smaller than the Sentra, but honestly I'm surprised. It has so much more, sun roof, the blind spot detectors, the info center actually is useful (especially after I get Nav on it). I'm glad I got it. Maybe after the lease (48 months) I get a Mazda 6, is that larger?

Nice to meet you all!

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about all the crap you had to go through to get a car. I use to work for a leasing company and many are a rip off. They always screwed with the residual value so you owe money when your lease ended. Hope all goes well. Post a photo of your ride when you get time.

Welcome aboard.

They worked you over but good, and that sucks. I would get your credit rating because after they ran your info through 35 lenders, they may have trashed it.

Sent from a Samsung that doesn't explode.
