This is my first post. I just got a blue 2015 Mazda3 hatchback 2.5L with manual transmission. This in my fourth Mazda, having previously owned a RX-7, MX-6, and 2006 Mazda3. I usually do all my own service work.

I also have a Triumph Tiger 800 motorcycle.

I'll try not to ask dumb questions like, "What oil should I use?"

Get whatever synthetic you can find on sale CONSISTENTLY. Meaning, grab that Mobil 1 when it's on sale now and use it when the oil change is due.

Getting a 5 quart jug at Walmart + OEM Mazda oil filter seems like the best and cheapest route though. The Mazda oil filter is made in Japan and looks to be very high quality (no other oil filter has a protective film over the filter, to keep dirt and dust out).

I personally stocked up on a ton of Castrol EDGE full synth when it was on sale many moons ago, and plan to use that for the next few years until I run out... with OEM Mazda 3 oil filters of course.
