I've been lurking for a while, figured I should post an intro.

I bought my first brand new car in Dec 2010, a 2011 MZ3 2.5 4dr, GT, auto with tech package in black mica. I would have loved a speed3, but I couldn't drive a stick at the time, and the touring + tech package on a speed would have been out of my price range. The MZ3 was still quite an upgrade from a 99 Civic though.

The only mod I've done is a New Hampshire legal tint on the rear windows, and played with plasti-dip a bit. I did my wheels, emblems, and fog light housings all black and that lasted about a year. I re-did them all white with a couple coats of gloss this summer and really liked the contrast with the black mica, but just stripped it all off because...

My local dealer just got in a used 2013 Speed 3 they bought at auction, with only 12k miles. It's crystal white, touring with the tech package, I got to see it the other day but couldn't drive it because they're repairing the rear bumper. Once that's back on the car they'll call me to test drive and appraise my MZ3. I was kind of hoping to hold out for a next gen speed 3, but who knows how long that could be, and this 2013 just looks so sexy.

I'm a little nervous about test driving it because I haven't driven a stick in quite a while. My salesman doesn't seem to have any concerns about letting me drive it though. The only experience I have is from a work trip to Europe, apparently they've never heard of automatic transmissions in France. I was there for about a month and was pretty comfortable by then, but that was 2 years ago. I have read the clutch can be tricky on the MS3. In others' experience, is it significantly more difficult than other manual cars you've driven?

Whats up Andrew welcome to the forum!
Glad you decided to introduce yourself man!
Dude, you gotta get the Speed!!!

As an extremely proud owner of a 2013 Crystal White Pearl Mazdaspeed 3, I must say from experience that is was by far the best purchase that I have made.
The clutch... yes... its a little touchy, but after about a week I was used to it.
I have been driving stick since I was in high schoo....*cough* an looooong time ago! *cough*
and with this car, I had to learn how to drive stick all over again. Its not like any of my previous manual cars, the feel is completely different... in a good and scary way. lol!

I would say that you will not be disappointed if you got it and you would have the manual down in no time.. anyway!
Keep us updated on what happens.

I stopped in at the dealer after work today, saw them putting the bumper back on the white one, and got to sit in a red one that just arrived. They both should be getting detailed and be ready to drive tomorrow or Friday.

I love the crystal white, my only gripe is the previous owner must have sold the 2013 dark wheels because it has the silver ones. The red one they just got in has the darker wheels...

Thats awesome! You have a couple of options! When I went to go purchase, I test drove a red one and came this close to getting it. The red is sexy!
But I was set on white! lol!
As for wheels... dont let that sway you... maybe you can work something out with the dealer to swap. But if not, there is always plastidip!

You should prolly go ready to buy... after the test you'll be sold! LOLOL!
Keep us updated either way!

Got to drive the white one. The clutch was a little tricky, it springs back quicker than the few cars I've driven. I was a little jerky, but didn't stall. Otherwise the car was solid, and that turbo spooled up nicely

Couldn't negotiate a price. Bottom line was 5k more than I wanted, got them to offer 1k more for my trade. If they would have come down even 500 bucks I would have been driving it home, but they wouldn't budge. I'll keep an eye out for one with more miles or without the tech package, but there ain't many around.

Update:

My wallowing in disappointment of not being able to make a deal didn't last very long. I found another speed3 in crystal white, with the same low mileage at the only other Mazda dealership around. I thought it was a mistake in Mazda's certified used inventory, but nope it was a different car. This one doesn't have the tech package so the price was a bit better, and it has the dark wheels on it.

There must be a thread for new speed3 owners, I will go hunt that down and post some pics.
