Looking at the shape of the unit, if the cavity behind our radio can fit a single din radio, someone like metra could make a cavity that covers the metal bit of the top of the alpine and leaves us with an aftermarket radio that looks stock.

Only thing is we would probably lose most of the functionality of the command knob, but it's worth it for me. I'm tired of the stock system.

Considering all the other things the OEM screen controls like the HUD, iActiveSense package, BOSE sound, interior and exterior lights, GPS and whatnot i'd say i pass.

It's great for those with the barebones M3 though

The alpine unit has iDatalink support so as long as iDatalink updates their software it can control everything the Mazda head unit controls.

I have a 2016 Mazda 6 that I'm willing to lend to Metra or Idatalink so they can develop a dash kit and integration harness for our cars. Preferably Idatalink since they made a kit for the F150 that integrates so well but they're in Canada. That ILX looks like it might just work with the right kit and harness.
