So I recently bought what was supposedly a done Mazda 3 however was just a battery issue so decided to keep it. She is in decent shape so replaced some stuff however the radio I put in a 2din touchscreen that sounds amazing.....except the moment you put the car into any gear it shuts off and will power on and off as you drive. I am at a loss thinking maybe not enough power to thge unit? Checked wires and found nothing as only happens when the car goes into gear. Any advice?

sounds like some kind of alternator issue, or the car's electrical system is wonky. you can test the battery--should meter around 12.66v with the car off and 14.3v with it running (and the alternator consequently engaged). Try shifting and see if battery voltage drops. Make sure you can find all your ground wires running from the negative battery terminal to chassy and the alternator too (saw that once, customer was missing the ground wire from battery to the alternator, and the radio would shut off when the window switch was pushed, then keep turning on and off). what brand is the radio?

My Mazda B4000 is doing the same after I did a little arc welding to some body metal on frame. I unhooked the power side of battery but never unhooked the negative side of battery. I'm thinking at this point I may have shorted something on the column. If I have in park or neutral radio works or acc also. If I put in drive radio goes off.
