I'm looking to get another SD card for North American Nav. I'm aware that there are several versions around, viz:

BHP1 66 EZ1A 2566624 Rev01
BHP1 66 EZ1B 2566624 Rev02
BHP1 66 EZ1C 2566624 Rev03
BHP1 66 EZ1D 2566624 Rev04
BHP1 66 EZ1E 2566624 Rev05
BHP1 66 EZ1F VPGMYF-15L100-1B

The "A" version came out in 2014, replaced by "B", etc.

I believe the current version is "F".

Presumably each successive version had the latest and greatest map content.

2 questions:

1. can you use any fresh card (ie any version), provided it is not locked to a vehicle's VIN, and update the latest map content through the Mazda toolbox; or do you need to start with the current version SD card to be able to capture a future map update through the toolbox?

2. the nomenclature change from "A" through 'E" versions above is pretty obvious. "F" is significantly different. Is there anything special about "F" that would suggest a new baseline for the SD card in order to capture any future updates?

from my experiences Maps update ( version ) are matter of:
1- more coverage area
2-increase points of interest
3-rework on phoneme ( to enhance text to speech )
4- way of compress ( low size more data )
at other plat forum of Maps there are (premium Maps ) unlimited life time update. " this will never happen on this Mazda plat forum "

Last things, any Map ( SD CARD ) ..Important .. ( Navteq ) and late called " HERE" , when the SD CARD locked to Car Vin , will take the last update available..
BUT. if you were using before for example Maps from Q4 2014 and you updated them as it promised for 2 year , and then you got same Map version ( new ) don't expect Mazda TOOLs will provide you the last version. update... because yours VIN already registered.

the solution for this Mazda gave other services ( purchasing update ), mean you can buy this service when you think you need last map data update on yours Locked ( OLD ) SD CARD.

buying new ( SD CARD ) version will not help you at all.... unless its had the last code as ( BHP1 66 EZ1F VPGMYF-15L100-1B ) , but its not clear for me. if this will give you the 2 years to update.. ( i mean really update ) as "HERE" the last update from 2017 version had very good coverage over all region's.

i would prefer to purchase update only when i am sure its really worth with new coverage which i do missing.

If I understand the comments correctly the recommendation would be to buy the latest version (currently "F") when my card 's 3-year free updates expire. I know I can purchase single map updates on my existing card but that will be more expensive, over time, than another card with 3 years on it.

I still wonder about purchasing an older, unlocked card and using it to get the most recent map updates under its 3-year free update policy. I appreciate the only reason for buying an older one would be because they are cheaper than the current one, but if they work then that might be a good enough reason.

Also, can anyone explain the significance of the radically different serial number on the new "F" version card?
