Hey everyone - I bought my 2014 3 about four weeks ago. Whenever I turn the A/C to outdoor air, this horrible smell which is a mix of mildew and just general unpleasantness comes through the A/C vents.

If i change it back to recirc, the problem goes away. My old Corolla did this, but it was 15 years old, this car is new. I suppose it could be a filter or something, but again... a new car shouldn't have this problem.

Before you get to your destination, blast the heater on full heat and speed for a minute or so. It'll get rid of any moisture in the system that causes the smell.

Get a Walmart version of Lysol and with the AC set to outside air, spray into the air vents from outside below the window. If you're game, pull out the internal air filter and spray into the blower from inside.
